From the Inside Flap
Best known for his luxuriant white coat and his sweet smiling expression, the Samoyed is also a rugged and versatile worker, as well as one of the most people-friendly breeds around. Devotion to his owners, intelligence, trainability and hardiness are just a few of the many characteristics that have endeared this Nordic breed to fanciers all over the world. For an owner who can meet the demands of caring for the abundant coat, the playful, good-natured Samoyed is a wonderful choice for a family pet and companion. This book provides the much-needed factual information about the Samoyed and his ancestry, character and standard, as well as proper selection, feeding, training, preventative health care and showing. The new owner will welcome advice about puppy-proofing the home, preparing for the pup’s arrival and preventing puppy problems. In addition to an extremely authoritative text, this book presents over 135 photographs in full colour, which prove to be as!
informative as they are attractive. Helpful hints and important information are highlighted to provide easy access to everything the reader needs to know about life with a Samoyed. Whether it’s basic training problems, allergies or fleas, this book is the way to prevention, providing the reader with the necessary guidance an owner needs from puppyhood through the senior years. Recommended by top breeders and trainers, this book is the responsible first choice of every new owner of a Samoyed. Topics discussed include: History of the Samoyed; Characteristics of the Samoyed; The Samoyed Breed Standard; Your Samoyed puppy; Everyday care of your Samoyed; Housebreaking and training your Samoyed; Health care of your Samoyed; Showing your Samoyed; Understanding the behaviour of your Samoyed.

Richard and Alice Feinnes's extensive research relative to the descendancy of purebred dogs is looked upon by most historians as some of the most thorough and accurate available. Together the husband and wife team wrote The Natural History of Dogs, which classifies all dogs as having descended from one or a combination of four major groups: the Greyhound group, the Mastiff group, the Dingo group and the Northern or Arctic group. All four of these categories trace back directly to separate and distinct branches of the wolf family. The group that is of particular interest to the lovers of the Samoyed breed is the Arctic or Nordic group that descends directly from the rugged northern wolf (canis lupus). Included in this group are: the Alaskan Malamute, Chow Chow, German Shepherd, the much smaller Welsh Corgi and Spitz-type dogs as well as the Samoyed (pronounced Sammy-yed, with the accent on the last syllable).
