When a Great Dane puppy is raised with a litter of Dachshunds, it naturally thinks it's a Dachshund too--even when it grows to 10 times the size. Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette star as the hapless couple who took in the galumphing dog, which wreaks havoc on their house and home. The Ugly Dachshund is mostly a series of spectacular disasters (the doggy demolition of Jones's art studio will delight kids and reduce adults to nervous wrecks), but it's held together by the convincing domestic banter of Jones and Pleshette (who was quite a dish in 1965); the pair went on to star in a couple of other Disney live-action flicks, Bluebeard's Ghost and The Shaggy D.A.. Despite some racial and gender stereotypes, it's a good-natured and amusing movie in the Disney mold. Also featuring classic character actor Charlie Ruggles (Bringing Up Baby, The Parent Trap). --Bret Fetzer

You'll love this if you are a Dachshund fan!
What a great film this is! We have 8 miniature dachshunds and this film portrays these little characters as they are in real life - full of mischief and courage! No doubt Great Dane owners will love the film too! I can watch this over and over again and see something new - well worth the purcahse (such a good price too!). Hope you all enjoy it - better still, get yourselves a dachshund and you'll see why!

A light family entertainment
This a lovely story for all the family to see. Although the story is simple and the events are easily predictable yet it is nice to watch and enjoy.
The younger children will be fascinated with the animal behaviour while the older will catch the situation jokes and laugh a lot. I throughly enjoyed this movie with the family as a very good Walt Disney Film.

Anything but ugly
Being a child of the 50's our weekly visit to the cinema was our escape from reality and seing a disney film was the highlight of that visit. I just love animal films and comedy and ugly Dachshund is one of my favourites and ideal for a young family or for kids to watch on their own. You can always rely on Disney to have a certain standard in their movies and this film will not disappoint....
