depends what info you require
Generally a pretty good book. Problem is though, not many details about how far from airports and suggestions for single travelers; just seems a bit too brief. Some of the info is a tad incorrect but I can only say that they probably were correct at the time of print. For basic info...great; for something with a bit more detail, then perhaps someone could recommend something. I travel alone a lot and something with regards to that, and distances from airports or centers would be helpful.
Bulky volume but a must-have for a gay voyager
Theoretically you can find everything on the Internet but getting it all in a single volume for a moderate price is so much easier. This is the most complete guide for a gay tourist - not only gives you details of your probable favourite spots in places you have never visited before but offers a few words of warning and introduction.
Still one comment is necessary - the more info you can find here about local attitudes towards gay men and anti-gay laws (in European terms: the further east you plan to venture), the less likely it is that addresses of clubs are still valid. Some Internet search before leaving home may be quite advisable if you don't want to find a grocery store in a place advertised as a gay watering hole ;)
Spartacus 2009
I purchased this book for a European tour my partner and I recently took.
I hadn't had a copy since 2004 so was glad to be up to the minute. Spartacus is trying to cover the world in one easy to carry volume so you can't expect the world, if you get my drift. We were traveling to 6 different countries and found very brief descriptions for bars, clubs, hotels etc in most cities we visited. Two things to be careful of, we sometimes followed the maps to places that sounded good and found ourselves in some pretty dodgy areas, this isn't the books fault but you wish the directions/area reviews were a bit more detailed. Secondly, I feel that certain businesses get themselves in this guide probably hoping to attract guys with lots of disposable income and yet there is nothing gay about them at all in fact although they are recommended you end up feeling a bit uncomfortable, like you crashed the hetero party.
All in all the book's scope is very ambitious and you can always use the internet for more detail.
