All shaves are the same, the key is th Clean&Renew5
Over the years I have gone from Braun to Philips and back again. But some years ago I adopted the Clean&Renew system with Braun. It cleans, lubricates, dries and charges the shaver after each shave, and it ensures that you are not using a dirty shaver day-in day-out. Naturally if you read the publicity they all talk about getting to the hairs that other shavers don't touch, but the reality is that most shavers appear to do the same basic job with about the same success. For me the real difference is the Clean&Renew, and it might cost a bit more to buy and maintain but I am sure that I am using each day a shaver that is fully charged and clean. The only comment I would have is that it is a shame that you can not buy a Clean&Renew stand separately.

    Excellent but a bit pricey.4
I have used Philishaves for about 14 years now and had always been fairly happy with the shave although the cost of the heads is a complete ripoff--I used to buy them in the USA on holiday for half price.
I recently tried their new speed XL range but found it to feel v cheap and plasticky and was unimpressed with the shave, luckily I bought it from Costco who allow returns despite being used.
So on a friends recommendation I stumped up the cash for the Braun 8995.
Quite simply it is fantastic- a v v close shave in about 3 mins, it displays how long each shave has taken.
I get stubbly quite quickly and this shaver just chomps its way right through leaving me feeling really smooth, the only difficult area I find is around my neck but it is still better than the Phillishave here.
I distrust the recommendation to use the clean and renew station after every shave, I just pop the foil off and blow it out and just use the station about once every 10 days or so as using daily will add to the running costs of new cleaning cartridges, the tip is to relace the cartridge cover in between cleaning cycles to prevent the alcohol based fluid rapidly evaporating.
It also has a shave "Oddometer" which totals up your total number of shaves ever which over the years will be interesting.
The shaver feels v solid and well made especially after the Phillishave.
About the price-- all I can suggest is that if you are taking a holiday to the USA consider ordering to your hotel/friends USA address from Amazon.com where it is half the UK price depending on exchange rate (why is it soo expensive in the UK?), most hotels will readily accept and look after deliveries prior to your arrival.

    Really good shaving system5
I bought this razor to replace my Remington TCT3 which I rate highly and have reviewed on here too.
I had a Braun previously to the Remington but that was beaten hands down by the TCT3 for overall performance. This Braun, however, is a very different story. Its precision head and comb basically make it the best electric razor that I have ever used for removing virtually all kinds of hairs. It deals swiftly and effectively with hair that lies flat against the skin which is usually becomes that scourge of dry shaving - the ingrowing hair.
It will deal with conventional bristles over large areas like the cheek just as effectively as the TCT3 but it takes a little longer because it has two foils instead of the TCT3's three.

The cleaning system is superb, and gives a really refreshing shave after having been carried out. I would recommend using it maybe only weekly though, as daily is wasteful, and not called for when you can use the effective brush provided. Recharging can be carried out via the cleaner or the lead supplied. The charges last for about ten days before there is a need for recharging again.

All in all a great shaver and to be recommended.
