Good stuff for novice and experienced group leaders.
I saw this book being used by a trainer I was working with, and had to buy it.

It covers all types of groups, from a bunch of friends coming together to arrange a holiday away, to experienced theraputic groups. The authors forgo the normal forming, storming etc in favour of a more sophisticated model of group development, and then elegantly show how this model can apply to all groups. In the section about "Group issues" it is heartening to see a discussion of the flow of power within a goup.

There is lots of help with facilitation techniques and interventions, although they are not listed as such. Finally there is a toolkit, with exercises and the like. Some are old favourites, some are new.

This book especially appealed because of its emphasis on the holistic nature of group work, and because of its very laidback, zen-like approach. But don't let that deceive you. This is a powerful text,suitable for all levels,with stuff you will want to read over and over again. If you only buy one "group" book, get this one. If you regularly work with groups you will still find much to make you think, and much that you recognise, but that is not acknowledged by anyone else. All in an immediately accessible style. Perfect.
