Manufacturer's Description

4 popular Puzzles:

Crossword
The traditional crossword featuring themes of General knowledge and some themed puzzles. Work through each clue to solve the Crossword!

Wordsearch
Find all the words listed in the grid. They may run forwards, backwards, up, down or diagonally, but always in a straight line.

Fitword
The general workflow for play involves selecting a word-length group, then selecting a specific word, then selecting where to place it on the grid very simple but very addictive.

Sudoku
The classic 9x9 grid, along with 6x6 and 4x4 for easier & mini puzzles. For 9x9 grids: Place a number from 1-9 in each empty cell so that each row, each column and each 3x3 block contains all the numbers from 1-9. The number of 'givens' or starting numbers depends on the difficulty level selected.

5 different game modes

The different modes offer a variety of styles of play, and a variety of audio to reflect the mood, pace and events of the various playing styles.

o    Puzzler Tournament

This is the main game mode, in which the player tries to become as talented as a Puzzle Master. It provides a structure in which the player is compelled to progress through a number of different puzzle types.

The player is challenged by the Puzzler Master with climbing a metaphorical ladder of puzzles. Each successfully completed rung would see the player’s 'rank' rise.

When the player completes the final rung of the ladder, the Puzzler Master will judge them to have reached 'enlightenment' – the highest rank a Puzzler can reach.

o    Quick Blast

Quick Blast is the perfect mode for quick games when you have a few minutes to spend for play. Tell the game exactly how much time you have to play, and you will be set a number of challenges especially picked to make the most of the available time.

What's more, if it is a reoccurring event, such as a train or tube journey: you will be able to track and compare your performance each day.

o    Simply Puzzle

When all you want to do is play a puzzle, then Simply Puzzle is the mode for you. Pick any type of puzzle you want, at a difficulty level. That’s all there is to it. No scores, no timers – just puzzles.

o    Fast & Fun

Gamers that like an adrenalin rush with their puzzles will love the Fast & Fun mode.

The specially chosen puzzles that appear in this mode will force you to make lightning fast decisions as you race to beat the clock.

The aim is to complete as many puzzles as possible in a row without running out of time or making an error.

o    Head to Head

This Mode is a 2-players challenge.

The rules will vary depending on the type of puzzle being played, but players will take it in turns to resolve a section of the puzzle and compete against each other.

3 different difficulty levels:

Around 2000 puzzles split across

  • Beginner
  • Intermediate
  • pro levels & mini game versions.

Puzzler on DS5
I purchased this game last Friday as I have read the Puzzler magazines on holiday for years and always thought they were the best of the bunch. As this was an official game I had quite high expectations.

I must say the format does take a little getting to, but once you get it, its very addictive. I liked that I can choose my preferences and only do Wordsearches and Crosswords if I wanted, or try something different with the variety on there.

For me its replaced the Metro on the long journey to work, and although its challenging if you play the proffessional levels, you can make it as easy or hard as you like. (My daughter is currently impressing the family on beginner crosswords)

I do think it fills a gap on the DS and If its still this enjoyable in a months time it will have been a good purchase indeed.

Overall quite good, but disappointed with variety of games3
Having purchased "The Puzzler" magazine for a lot of years (20+) I always enjoyed the wide range of different types of puzzles portrayed and, as such, I eagerly awaited the delivery of my Nintendo DS version.

I was disappointed to see that there are only four types of game available: crosswords, word searches, fitwords (where you have to fit all the words into a blank grid) and sudoku. No sign of the logic problems, or Jigwords, or codebreakers!

Having said that, the games are quite good and the interface is intuitive. I travel a lot so this will probably while away many an hour in airport departure lounges, as well as helping to keep the old grey matter active.

Good puzzles let down by bad touch screen controls3
This could have been a great game: there are four puzzles, they've been compiled well and there are several modes, allowing you to pick a certain type of puzzle or play what the game throws at you or play puzzles against the clock. Other reviewers have described the puzzles well so I'll move on to the problem.

The problem is that the game has been implemented badly: you often have to select something on the touch screen more than once before it registers that you hit it and the touch screen is often inaccurate - selecting the wrong word or the wrong square.

I wish they'd done a better job of making this game. I still think it's worth playing but it is frustrating when you spend ages trying to select the right item or get stopped in the fast and fun mode by a mistake when you had tried to select the right item.
