Excellent to know your Camera, but dont expect to be a pro after reading it
The book is excellent 5* if you know what you are getting. So if you are a hobbiest photographer who want to know your recently bought D90 in more depth and want to know very quickly about overal basics of photography and accessories and lenses related to D90 and their general use to improve your skills, then this is an excellent resource to start with. After reading this you dont need to buy anyother D90 specific book or manual. This will explain your camera in all depth and tell you how to use it effectively, later you should be able to develop your skills with time, passion and practice, and the foundations you will learn from this little colorful hand book.
However, this book doesnt cover all art, theories, tips and tricks of Digital photography (which you should not expect to get from a camera specific book) and is good enough for beginners and medium levels and not for an expert Digital Photographer, in which case I would give it 4*. Though once again, this should not be expected to be an expert guide.
Book is also in excellent quality color print.
Not really a field guide
I bought this book based on a few reviews but wish I'd taken more notice of Colin Birchnall's "ENDEVOUR" review.
The book is exactly as he says 'an extended manual' I trawled through this book thinking, there's bound to be some pearls of wisdom from a pro on using this camera, but no. There's some good advice on general photography like buy a diffuser for the built in flash or get a speed light if you can afford it, what lenses are considered good buys etc. A section on lighting which is good, but actual info on specifically using the d90 there's very little.
Out of the 268 plus pages I'd say over 168+ are general photography principles (very good advice, I may say.)and the remainder being slightly extended descriptions of the manual with the author tagging a sporadic sentence regarding the d90 on the end.
The author is obviously a serious pro and knows his stuff, but as a new d90 owner I was expecting more insight and left being almost non the wiser than after reading the manual, certainly disappointed, and therefore I can't recommend it.
Nikon D90 Digital Filed Guide
This book is far more informative than any other i own. It not only explains the D90 but other issues such as lenses, techniques and the Nikon CLS. Great Book. Exceptional Value.
