True crime from Dundee, covering the most fascinating and chilling cases from the last century Every town has its monsters. But only when their rage explodes and unspeakable crimes are committed do we realise we hold them in our midst. Some are unpredictable psychopaths, others achieve notoriety after a moment of madness when a single out-of-character act changes their lives forever. One thing is for certain, homicide comes in many guises - the only thing most have in common is a corpse. In The Law Killers, journalist Alexander McGregor examines some of the people and deeds, which have terrorised Dundonian communities. Having reported on many of them first-hand, he has unique insight into the cases and they are as chilling as they are compelling. The father who wanted to go one better than his double-killer son...and did. The groom who promised to love, honour and cherish both his brides...before he strangled them. The thirteen-year-old who was almost as much a victim as the child she killed. The trail of slaughter that started with a break-in and ended hundreds of miles away after an escaped convict killed again...and again and again. The unsolved murder of the wealthy spinster who led a secret life. The trail of dead women in the life of a social worker who thought he could outwit the police...and nearly did

Customer Reviews
The Law Killers
This book is brilliantly written - easy to read and containing the right amount of detail. Descriptions clearly provide the particulars of each crime, without the need for over-elaborate and unnecessary detail. As a native Dundonian, I found this extrememly interesting, both in terms of someone who remembers several of the featured crimes as well as being able to identify many of the locations mentioned. However, the book would be a great read, I am sure, to someone who does not know the city of Dundee.
Wow!
This has to be one of the best true crime books ever written. I read it straight after his debut novel and can't believe an author can master crime fiction and true crime with the same superb skill. It would easy when writing about actual events just to catalogue a list of cold facts but he manages to make each different case read like a short novel in itself. Mr McGregor is just a born story-teller. Keep them coming.
The Law Killers 2009
Further to the author's great success with his two previous books, he has brought out the 2009 version of this book now. It has 6 new chapters, new photos and an excellent chapter on the Templeton Woods murder. He was unable to publish much about this last case in the previous book, due to someone being charged with the 25 year old case at the time of printing.
Alexander McGregor's writing style is fantastic, giving you enough detail to make you believe that you are there, but not too much to loose sight of the actual murder. I presume that having been a journalist gives him the edge to produce the fast pace, descriptive and engrossing style.
Originally from Aberdeen, now living in Dundee, I loved how easy it was for me to work out where the murders took place, however this is not just a book for Dundonians, I have lent it to many friends, in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and even as far as Australia and each of them have been captivated by this book.
A must for any true crime fan.
