Product Description

This work takes a unique and humorous look at a city with story to tell. The "Time Tram" lands in Dundee! This new adventure book for kids of all ages is a hilarious romp through history. The City of Dundee, with an eventful and colourful past, which has had more than its fair share of cannibals and witches, has truly played its part in shaping Scotland. The Time Tram driver and conductor meet characters from the Mesolithic middens 8000 years ago, when Dundee was founded; Iron and Stone Age Dundonians; William Wallace, who struck his first blow for Scotland's freedom here; Mary Slessor, 19th century missionary, and even Desperate Dan from 'The Dandy', as of course, Dundee is home to DC Thomson, creators of the country's best loved comic characters, Dennis & Gnasher, Oor Wullie, The Broons and many more. Much has been written about Dundee, but never in this way and never before with young readers particularly in mind. Written by Matthew Fitt and illustrated by Keith Robson, this is a history book with a difference using a time travelling tram that takes the reader on an entertaining and fascinating journey. "Time Tram Dundee" is a book which will appeal to more than those with a connection to the city, as it is hugely interesting and entertaining book with lively, witty and wonderfully crafted illustrations throughout.

A Wee Gem Of Dundee History5
What a grand little book ! I was given this book as a Christmas present, and I have to say my immediate thought was, "This is a children's book. I suppose I had better read it." Well, read it I did, and I'm really glad I did. As I was born and raised in Dundee, I thought I knew a thing or two about the history of the city, but I found out things from this book that I didn't know, and what fun I had while learning. The book is perhaps aimed a children, in fact a wee note on the cover says it is "A treat for bairns". I think I qualify, as my wife says I never did grow up .... My toys just got more expensive ! Through words and cartoon illustrations - lots of illustrations which reminded me of the Beano and Dandy, two other excellent Dundee products - the book takes you through the history of Dundee, from the year dot right up to today. The cartoons have word boxes and a lot of words are in Dundee dialect which makes for a very amusing read. For teaching Dundee history to children I cannot think of a better medium than this, but if you're an auld yin, like me, then I recommend this book for a good laugh and learning some things you probably didn't know. They even list all the other places in the world where thee is another Dundee. Here is where I caught them out, because they missed one. A couple of years ago I passed through Dundee in Guyana, and have the picture of the road sign to prove it. [...].
