Order now, without hesitation. A real gem at a paltry price!
This orchestral score for Dune (by Toto, of all people- respect is due!)is very subtle, and entwines themes and characters in the leitmotif way of an expert such as John Williams. It captures the quiet undertones of the film magnificently but isn't afraid to overstate during high energy scenes with electric guitars, soaring chorals and orchestral swirls. The main title (1) is as instantly familiar as the front cover here, (2) Robot Fight is one of those tense parts to a score which works better with the on-screen action accompanying it. Leto's theme (3) again, is understated and sentimental with a brooding and dark regal quality in evidence not unlike the Duke himself. Track 5, The Box, is truly fantastic and a personal favourite of mine, only bettered by the brilliance of Track 16... The Floating Fat Man (The Baron) of track 6 is a darkly mischievious tongue-in-cheek dance across a mad Vicar's church organ; perfectly in keeping with a Baron as perverse as Leto is noble. Trip to Arrakis (7) is gentle and mystical, as space is folded and journeys are made without moving. (8) 'First Attack' is standard 'fight' music, while the 'Prophecy Theme' of (9) needs no introduction or description; it simply IS Dune. (10) 'Dune' Desert Theme actually SOUNDS like Toto playing a film score in parts (draw your own conclusion here). Track 11 (Paul Meets Chani) is easy to listen to and further develops the themes that have gone before, 12 (Prelude, Take My Hand) is as gentle as 13 (Paul Takes the Water Of Life) is the churning exploration of a crafted nightmare in noise. 'Big Battle' (14) is close to 'First Attack' but is saved in the end by a crashing, rousing crescendo of a familiar score which is fitting to Paul's triumph and a tribute to his dominance of the score as well as Arrakis.'Paul Kills Feyd' (15) speaks for itself, the tribal beats pitching House Harkonnen against House Atreides as much as Feyd against Paul in a satisfying end to this particular sub-plot of the film. If I start about (16) Final Dream, I won't stop- this is the single best piece on the whole CD as far as I'm concerned. This must be played loud. The climax of the whole film, Paul's ability to cause rain on Arrakis is perfectly matched by the sheer power and overwhelmingingly religious presence this short piece holds. (17)is one of those slightly cheesy 80's pieces which almost makes you cringe; but you can almost see the various characters appear before you in the visual credits as it starts. A score is measured by its evocability; how strong is the picture it paints, how total the immersion into the vivid colours of visual memory by the back door of sound? Two things are clear; this film score can hold its own without onscreen prompts to remind you of what is happening (as many other mediocre scores fail on, needing the visual 'tie' to work) and cements the wideranging appeal of the film to both moviegoers and soundtrack buffs alike.

A brilliant film masterpiece and a sound track to go with it
Dune has always been one of my most favourite films,it's like it says on the box a(masterpiece) and the soundtrack only made it better,i think the soundtrack was an imporant part of the film and added alot to it,i think the film was made by its soundtrack and i have always enjoyed it and i hope others enjoy and keep on enjoying it for years to come.

(DUNE) A BRILLIANT FILM MASTERPIECE AND A SOUNDTRACK TO GO WITH IT.

GREAT 80'S SCI-FI SCORE
This is one of the best soundtracks of the 80's and certainly an outstanding example of scoring for sci-fi/fantasy. Probably was overlooked as fans and critics crucified the movie which was a massive flop. But this music is terrific, from the sweeping epic theme to the wonderfully executed quiet moments.

Hard to believe this was Toto's only film score, they hit this one out of the park. A fantastic underrated music score.
