After much searching and price comparing, finally opted for the dvd 106, ordered it 11am and chose first class delivery, to my suprise it was with me within 24 hours. After a 2 minute browse of the manual, i was up and running.

Picture quality great (on HQ even better)

Sound quality very good (beware of high winds on Mic, common problem on all camcorders)

Handling and usablilty, great, buttons designed for one handed shooting.
(be gentle with zoom control or you will hear the button through your mic)

Simplicity: even the father in law was eager to jump on and have a shot, and found it easy to use.

Battery life, 94 minutes on full charge (Bigger battery needed for longer shooting.

Zoom: 40x zoom is amazing, auto focus is quick to catch up

Software: Basic but competent for first time user, although if you want to get into serious editting, Sony vegas is the way forward but be prepared for some serious reading.

USB: easy to use and no download loss.

Summary: This Camera is aimed at the bottom end of the DVD market, Sony has added enough to keep any amateur filmer more than happy, for £230 it is one of the best on the market. unless you want to make a tv production this is a probably the best starting point.

It does what it says on the box, this camcorder should be on almost anybody's shortlist.

Note: unless you are taking a laptop on holiday, buy plenty of 8cm dvd's, to capture hours of magic moments.

    Buyer Beware !!!!!!4
Camera looks and feels good. Just getting to grips with the controls and so far unit has done just what it says on the box.

    BUT

Do not get accessory pack ACC-DVDP2 - the accessory pack battery is totally incompatible with the camera. You will need the more expensive accessory pack ACC-DVDH

DRAT - Just noticed that another customer has already complained to amazon about this and left a review - but I did not read it before buying.

Come on amazon - get your finger out and update this web page with the correct information!!!!!!

Great Value and easy to use5
Had mine for about a week now and and very pleased with it. Amazingly easy to use and with the software provided you'll be burning your own Dvd's in no time (The Media viewer is great.) Be warned though the camera uses mpeg-2 so if you want to get into editing you'll need another application. (You can edit a little with the camera but it's very basic.) Sony Vegas is a great editor and a steal at the moment from Amazon. Download a trial version first. My only niggle with the camera is that if you use a disc made by anybody other than Sony you get an annoying nag screen every time you start the camera. Other than that thumbs up!
