sony
this must be the latest version . The software supplyed is the latest 4.3 which seems much the same as earlier versions. I find this player works well with MP3 and of course the sony atrac is very good . The main problem is that you must use the software and I have found that changing a hard drive will not allow you to move files back since the player assumes you are trying to save tracks to a different computer . I also found the software merged two differently named playlists that had come from two similarly named albums (#1 #2) into one on the player .This defeats the whole point of creating playlists .labelling the tracks 1-n etc solves the problem .
Anyhow the player is worth the snags and it turns off very quickly if you press the pause/start button and restarts in less than 2 seconds where it left off . Recharge is very fast and a full charge took 35 minutes .
Superb
This product is better than previous Sony flash memory walkmen of this size. I've had the NW-E005BC (25g, 28 hour battery life) and before that the NW-E405 (37g, 50 hour battery life). All these can run for 3 hours on a 3 min. charge, are light (this is 29g), and have a long battery life when fully charged (this has a 30 hour battery life). This particular model has better sound quality than the NW-E005BC, has a screen that can display more than one colour (unlike both the earlier models), and does not require a cable to connect to the computer (unlike the NW-E405).
There is a more expensive variant with an FM tuner (NW-E015FBC). And other variants with more or less memory (this has 2GB). There is even an alternative Sony player of a similar size that does not use the Sony software (SonicStage). I don't mind the software; it increases the number of tracks that can be stored on the player, though transfers are slow.
As I write this, the delivery time is 4-6 weeks on Amazon. Other suppliers offer the product for slightly less and 1-2 day delivery.
Excellent player but NO FM RADIO!
Sound quality up to Sony standards (munches iPods easily)and is excellent (but do invest in another, better pair of headphones) but I wanted a Sony MP3 player with FM radio which Amazons description clearly states but this model does not include said tuner so it has gone back I'm afraid - its the NWE015BCF model which includes a tuner for £ 20.00 extra which defeats the object somewhat.
