Amazon.co.uk Review
Far from disappearing after hitting the pop charts with his famous schoolboy soprano rendition of "Walking in the Air" in 1985, Welsh singer Aled Jones has gone on to become one of the most consistent vocalists in Britain. His voice may have dipped to a baritone, but Jones has still shifted over six million records, entertained the Pope and the Queen, and has even become something of a minor television celebrity. One hit wonder, he isn't. You Raise Me Up collects together highlights from his 16 albums to date. Featuring many of his best-loved hits – "I Believe", "Silent Night", "Abide With Me", "Marble Halls" and, of course, the title track – Jones has also pulled off the wonderful masterstroke of re-recording "Walking in the Air", superimposing his current voice onto the original to create a most enchanting self-duet. Fans won't need much persuading to add this to their collection; and those who had Jones down as a novelty act might want to listen to this and think again.--Danny McKenna

A Real Pleasure to Meet you Again, Mr Jones
Listening to this CD was my first extended experience of Aled Jones(the older's) singing. I am very glad I gave myself the opportunity - and not just because of the very-reasonable Amazon price!
I have to say, therefore, that the singing on this CD merits some pretty fulsome praise. My overall impression is that, blessed with one of the most euphonious, light-baritone voices I can remember hearing, any song Mr Jones might choose to sing - within his popular/popular classical, religiously-oriented repertoire - would make extremely agreeable listening. As far as the contents of this collection are concerned, he sings it all with admirable clarity, tunefulness and lack of emotional affectation. I think I will take pleasure, repeatedly, in listening to most of the songs (already have done!), in particular "My Life Flows On," "Oh Holy Knight" and "Silent Worship," by Handel. The latter (referred to on the CD as "Did You Not Hear My Lady") is surely one of the most effortlessly-beautiful songs ever written by anyone, anywhere, in any age and it is gratifying that Aled Jones' rendering should make this so evident.
But my highest accolade has to go to "Marble Halls." This is what would probably be classified as a Victorian/Edwardian sentimental ballad but although it may still be that, in this recording it is altogether something more. And, ear-ravishing as is the tone of Julian Lloyd-Webber's cello, most of the credit for the performance can be claimed by the singer.
Absolutely lovely singing! If I had known about it when it first came out, I would unhesitatingly have voted this the CD Track of the Year (or something)!

I eagerly await the release of this much anticipated album from Aled Jones in just days from now. I have all of his albums and each one has been a masterpiece, so the task of selecting 'the best' songs from these must have been a massive challenge, as all of his songs are wonderful and showcase the incredibly special quality of his gorgeous velvety voice.
Aled's previous albums have included some astonishing treats with the unique duets that he's created with his treble and baritone voices, so now on this "You Raise Me Up: the Best of Aled Jones" album, his baritone duet with his world-famous and award-winning treble rendition of "Walking In The Air", promises to be breathtaking.
Aled is set to raise us up yet again with this lovely album, and I can't wait!
