Customer Reviews
British Railway's,Past,and Present.
If you want to know about the history of railway's in Great Britain, then this series of dvd's is for you.It deal's with all aspect's of the railway's,past, and present, there is even one dvd devoted to narrow gauge line's,which I found to be extremly interesting. The series cover's line's which have closed, but in some cases it talk's about the case for re-opening some, which are currently 'mothballed',or are only freight-line's at present, but could be used for passenger's once again,as the need for more sensible use of our limited oil stock's is starting to bite home, with ever the increasing price of runing a car.....!
I found the whole series very interesting indeed, volume 7 deal's with the building of the channel tunnel, and how it had it's own narrow guage railway, it goes into huge detail about the project,in fact it's one of the very few dvd's which I have come across, which deal's with this vast project in such detail.
For me personally I found the whole series very fascinting,as it took me down memory lane,as it showed me line's which have closed, some of which knew, and some which I never had the chance to ride on,before they closed. However looking to the future,I think this series, show's that if a railway system is to work, then it has to be financed properly, and looked after,in other word's valued by it's user's,that's you,and me........!
Title is misleading
If you are expecting a representation of all of Britain this is not for you. It is a rather quirky collection of DVDs including branch lines, narrow gauge and the Channel Tunnel. The first 3 discs out of 8 do not go beyond the South East corner of England. In the rest there is no Eastern Region , no Scotland, no Great Western apart from branch lines. For what you get it is good value but it was not what I expected.
SADNESS
As a ex B.R. employee I recommend this collection to all "Steam Buffs". I look back with sadness with the passing of "STEAM". Great collection, the only thing missing from the collection is the SMELL of STEAM.
