Concentrated Technology 2/3 the size of a full size cylinder vacuum, the Dyson DC22 Baby is small, but packs a powerful punch. It features everything you would expect from a Dyson machine and more. The Dyson DC22 Baby Animal offers powerful all-round pet hair removal, it has a mini turbine head, ideal for removing pet hair and dirt from confined spaces such as upholstery, stairs and the car. A hard floor tool gives improved pick up on hard floors and long bristles prevent scratching or marking on delicate floors. Also included is a turbine head which is especially good for pet hair pick up, gives effective pick up on all floor types with no need to change tools– the brushbar can be turned off for delicate rugs and floors. The Telescopic Wrap System allows the hose and wand to be compressed, and ensures that the Dyson DC22 Baby can be stored away neatly and compactly, with no loose components or wires to get tangled. It is constructed from ABS and polycarbonate which means that as well as being compact, the Dyson DC22 Baby is also lightweight. Softer, floor friendly wheels wont damage delicate floors and a washable HEPA filter means that the air expelled from the Dyson contains up to 150 times less mould and bacteria than the air you breathe.

A breath of fresh air
I ordered the Dyson DC22 Baby Animal on the 7th July and it arrived just a few days later, even thought I was in Jersey. Fantastic. We had owned an upright Dyson some years before but had since used a normal cylinder vacuum cleaner. I suffer from sinus problems and everytime I used our (old)cleaner my nose would block up and I would lose sense of taste and smell for the rest of the day. I decided enough was enough and that paying a bit more for a decent cleaner with quality filters would benefit my health and that of the rest of my family. My first impression of the Baby Animal was its size, which was small and compact. It wasn't too heavy either. This was exactly what we we looking for in our house with limited storage. I had chosen the 'animal', not because I have pets but I do have small children, which I think fall in to the same category as far as cleaning goes. Also I bought it due to the extras you get with the animal version and in case we get a pet in the future. Switching the cleaner on, I found it was quite noisy but then you don't tend to vacuum in the middle of the night so that was not a problem. I am pleased to say that despite using the cleaner around the whole house (it sits nicely on the stairs as you vacuum each step as well) my sinuses did not react in the slightest and smell and taste were maintained - phew - money well spent. We have a mixture of hard and carpeted floors and the various heads supplied did all the jobs nicely. The dust container is fairly small so if you had a large house you may need to empty it more than once, however for our three bedroom place it was just right. The container was full at the end but this meant I was forced to empty it before using it again, which is no bad thing. To summarise I think you get what you pay for with this cleaner. It is just right for the smaller family home. If you have a large house - get the larger version - if you have a mansion then you probably have someone else doing the cleaning for you anyway so it won't matter!
Worth the money
Have had this vacuum for 2 months now, and I have to say it works very well.
It's sturdy, comes with handy and worthwhile accessories, and does what is asked of it.
I have 2 hairy cats that like to shed hair all year round (the joys of central heating!) and the cleaner does suck them up with apparent ease.
It is also very easy to empty, with the seemingly normal level of engineering excellence. The whole lot clips together with the bare minimum of effort yet is strong and sturdy. It requires no effort to remove attachments or the dust box, yet never seems to anything other than secure when connected.
But most of all, it sits in the bottom of the cupboard taking up very little space, it really is as small as they say.
Worth the money, and it was much cheaper here than everywhere else I looked.
Have never thought it wasn't worth buying, although I cant compare it to anything else, only own one vacuum, and this seems like it will last for years.
A serious baby!
This is my third new vacuum cleaner in almost as many years. Since the on/off switch went on my Bosch I've been trying to find something just as good. The Bosch was over 12 years old so it has come as a shock to me to find that the cleaners I bought as replacements just weren't up to the job. I bought the Dyson as a last ditch attempt to get a cleaner that is supposed to work. I chose the 'Baby' because of storage issues and weight and 'animal' because I hope to have a dog at some stage.
Although it isn't heavy, it isn't as light as you might expect from a 'baby' so I would suggest trying it out if you are buying it for weight issues. It certainly isn't awkward to carry and folds away very nicely. I didn't find it excessively noisy, certainly not noisier than other cleaners I've owned but I use ear protectors mostly because of some hearing loss I have already. I have noticed that unlike other cleaners I've had it stops much quicker than I expected. There isn't the long motor run-on that many cleaners have.
It is very very manoeuvrable and to start with this gave me serious problems as I didn't expect it to be able to do things it can do! It isn't like using a typical cleaner and if you haven't used a Dyson before then I think you may need time to adjust to it. Once you realize how easy it is to use, it is a dream but to start with it did things I wasn't expecting! The cord is adequate in length and rewinds well. I like the fact that all of the parts fit together though I found the huge selection of tools a problem to store till I decided to keep everything back in the original box! As the box clearly isn't designed for that I'll have a storage problem some time in the future but I'd rather have more tools and wonder where to put them! The tool supply is very generous so it's a nice problem to have! I also like the fact you can see how full the cleaner is though I know some people find this rather off-putting.
The instructions are mostly as images and I'm not terribly good at working out what's what from images so I personally would have preferred more words but having said that I put it all together without the instructions and only went to the booklet to find out about storage and cleaning the filter.
I had cleaned the carpets a couple of days before this cleaner arrived and it has picked up a lot of extra dust so it is certainly better at cleaning than the vacuum cleaner I was using before.
It has been worth the money for me partly because I now know there's no other cleaner that I could possible expect to be better than the ones I've had so I'm very pleased with my purchase. I have a two bedroomed house with mostly carpet and a couple of hard floors and a couple of rugs. I found the Baby to be very efficient and willing and it certainly performs better than the other two (recent) cleaners I've had. I'm certainly as pleased with it as I was with the Bosch and found the other reviews here on Amazon very fair.
