Manufacturer's Description
Dyson is all about developing new and better technology to make things that work properly. DC30 is one of a new generation of Dyson handhelds that use the Dyson digital motor.
Electric motors had changed little since they were first invented 180 years ago – until now. Dyson engineers have done away with outdated, energy-hungry components to develop a faster, more power-efficient motor that spins up to 104,000rpm. The Dyson digital motor is smaller and lighter than conventional motors, which makes it ideal to power a handheld vacuum.
Other cordless handheld vacuums rely on filters to trap the dirt, but these start to clog as soon as you start to pick up dust, causing loss of suction. A Dyson handheld works differently as it uses patented Root Cyclone technology which spins the dirt from the air into the bin using centrifugal force, so the suction stays constant.
DC30 is the powerful handheld that doesn’t lose suction.

A great little cleaner
Dyson cleaners are known for two traits a quirky design and good suction and that is what you get here in a handheld form. The design is a little strange but at least it looks like a Dyson. It comes ready assembled and well packed in recyclable packaging. The instruction book is typical Dyson which means it seems to be designed for someone who cannot read and it has lots of pictures of how to take the cleaner apart for emptying and cleaning all that is missing are the words which I would find useful. However having charged the battery for about three hours it is ready to go to work and work it does. The tank fills up quite quickly but emptying it is easy and gives you a rest. The cleaner is quite well balanced and is not very heavy to hold and use. Oh and it makes a typical Dyson sound. Of course it really does clean. Used for stair cleaning there is no trailing lead to trip you up and all the normal household dirt is picked up quickly and easily including long hairs, we have two long haired people in the house. Of course you only have about six minutes or so before it needs charging again, remember it has a 14+ volt motor, so you are not going to clean the house with it, you need a full sized Dyson for that, but for all the small jobs it is perfect. Dyson make more expensive handhelds but I suspect you'll find as we did tyhis is all you need. Treat yourself and buy one you'll be very happy with your purchase.
Dyson Dynamo
This little gadget does exactly what it says on the tin. A super little dynamo of a vacuum for all those small areas for which a full size machine is too much trouble. After charging it went to work on my rugs and cleaned up in double quick time. Excellent suction from such a small lightweight machine. Just two small drawbacks that stop it getting 5 stars. 1) The dust/dirt capacity is a bit limited but as it will only be used for small areas this probably won't be a problem. 2)The full 3 hour charge only give 6 minutes vacuuming time again probably won't be a problem but better battery technology is available. Overall I'm very happy with this little 'Dyson Dynamo'
Little sucker
Bought this for probably the same reason as anyone else and the reason you're considering it now. Just for quick clean up without having to drag a full size cleaner out of the cupboard.
We have found it particularly useful with two toddlers commonly making a mess around the place. Also great for quick clean ups in the car.
You'll notice that I have used the word 'quick' a couple of times. This is because the battery life is a pretty short 6 minutes, preventing it from getting a full 5 stars. However, it's an intense six minutes with great suction and probably adequate for the jobs that it's used for. It would still have been nice to have a bit longer, especially if you get carried away in the car. I generally stick it back on charge after use so the battery is usually topped up. Have only run out of juice once.
We've come a long way since the original Dustbuster!
