    One Less Headache5
I recently had a home office built in the back garden, about 150 feet from the house. It was essential to have the telephone working in there with the minimum of delay and I wasn't looking forward to BT's charges for installing an extension. I needn't have worried - within a day I had the extender up and running with one of my old Panasonic DECT handsets. The reception is every bit as good as in the house, and in fact I discovered that it works even further from the house without any loss of signal. An absolutely indispensable piece of kit.

Works but a nightmare to set up. Instructions for setting it up with the Panasonic KX-TG8424 base station4
I bought the range extender as my Panasonic KX-TG8424 phones' range is pretty poor. This range extender was suggested to boost the signal by Amazon and the price and reviews of the Panasonic own brand range extender made that one unappealing.

The range extender is much smaller than I expected. Which is good. It is 12cm x 12cm. A plain black plastic rectangle with a single red LED. The box contains the range extender, the power supply and a screw to fix it to the wall.

Getting it working has taken 3 hours of trial and error, using the complicated reset instructions. For those of you with the KX-TG8424's I thought I would put down how I got the range extender working. The auto registration doesn't work with them.

    1. Set the range extender up near the unit then move it to its final destination later. My phones have a longer range than the extender. DO NOT PLUG IT IN YET!
    2. First of all go to the phone main menu on the Panasonics, then to "base unit set up" and turn on the "Repeater". It is the last option there.
    3. Now plug the power into the range extender for between 1-5 seconds and turn it off again. Then turn it back on. The LED slowly flashes and it is now in registration mode.
    4. Go to the phone base unit and press and hold the PAGE button (bottom right on the panel) The base unit will beep continuously.
    5. The LED on the extender flashes frantically. Take a handset, push and hold the DIAL (green) button until the LED stops flashing then press 5 (1-4 are already taken by the handsets if you have the 4 set) The LED on the extender will flash 5 times (I forgot to count but it worked). Then press * and hang up.
    6. The repeater will restart and then the LED comes on and stays on.
    7. Now it is done. Next move the repeater to where you want to extend the range. If it is in range the LED will remain continuously on when you plug it in. If it slowly flashes it is out of range so move it closer to the base unit until the light stays on.
    8. Next, when you try out your new range you will hear a squeaky beeping noise every now and again. You begin to think the extender is broken, how can you live with this, then you read the manual and it is the extender telling you it is working. Go back to the repeater, switch it off. Switch it on for 1-5 seconds. Switch it off again. Switch it on again. The LED slowly flashes. Switch it off again. Switch it on again and there is now no tone. DONE!

All of the above is scattered throughout the manual but I thought it might help to steer you to what works for the Panasonic handsets.

Hope the above is of some help!

    Where To Put It ?5
The RTX 4002 will work well with Panasonic phones some BT but NO Siemens due to encryption. Once you get your repeater you need to establish where it will be located. To do this fully charge your phones, place the base in the most suitable location and make a call (speaking clock for example) then walk away from the base of the phone towards the area you wish to use the phone within. Once the signal starts to crac
kle and cut out then go back a few steps until its a solid signal and this is the ideal location for the repeater which is the size of your palm and mounts vertically. It requires a mains socket NOT a BT socket and can be set up next to your base and moved into position. We are happy to help with any set up queries
