Synopsis
This is the standard guide advising counsellors how to deal with child abuse. It is a companion to the author's key work "Rescuing The Inner Child". Aimed at the counsellor and therapist, it is a comprehensive manual of all the resources needed to work in this field. From advice on how to establish a rapport with a child and memory retrieval to relating to feelings of anger, guilt and shame, it is easy-to-use and is an invaluable companion. There is also a section on dealing with the counsellor's own feelings. It can be used as part of a structured self-help programme or it can be used by an individual who is attempting to take responsibility for their own problems. Penny Parks was abused as a child and began her struggle to recovery in her twenties when she developed Parks Inner Child Therapy. She is also the author of "Rescuing The Inner Child", a standard work already in its 8th printing.

About the Author
Penny Parks developed her 'Parks Inner Child Therapy' from her own experience of recovery from childhood abuse. She has sinse refined the PICT model into a thorough way to work with childhood abuse victims or anyone experiencing Post Traumatic Stress.

Begin the rest of your life5
by reading this gem and it's companion book, and then set off on your own path, not the path laid out for you by those who would only abuse and hurt you.
As part of the reading list when training with Penny Parks herself, it could so easily have been yet another of those so-hard-to-digest, dry and tortuous books that only ever get read in order to pass an exam. However, this is nothing of the sort, and instead includes in its clear and easy to understand English all the information you should need to begin to regain control over your own life, and for the counsellors, all the information, tools and guidelines for helping those who come to you for help with their abusive pasts. Anger, repressed memories, blocks to getting better all are covered, and the counsellor is also reassured that to have tears at times when we hear the stories of horror and abuse is a natural reaction.
Highly recommended.

A wonderful tool for self-empowerment5
I've found this book really empowering. It talks about any form of abuse in childhood, not just sexual abuse or other extreme abuse. The main idea of the therapy is to construct a list of representative events from childhood where mistaken beliefs about yourself spring from. She suggests putting the list in reverse order of difficulty so you start with the easier ones first. For each one you use the methods she explains in some detail basically to re-empower the inner child. I've done three so far, the simplest was when a teacher told me off in Infants school. For each event I can now look back at them and they've become just something that happened rather than something that I feel like crying about. My list is still work-in-progress but life does look better already. My life was not as difficult as the previous reviewer but this book has still helped me enormously.

A must for those in need to find their inner chidren5
I have been in pain for years trying to work out why I did things to harm myself.I suffered years of knowing that something was different about me.It felt like I was never alone and it scared me to death at times.I would suffer panic attacks, weird memories and never know why.I started hypnotherapy and suddenly found 3 inner children.I scoured libaries for books to help me understand but they did'nt give much information and I felt very alone. I then went to our book shop in town and found this wonderful book dedicated to giving me the answers I was craving.Suddenly everything I have done good and bad in my life seemed to make sense for the first time in my whole life. I have since managed to have quite alot of feedback from my inner children and have gained knowledge of ten years of my life that I had no recollection of.I am most days still taking it step by step.I truly believe this book has saved my life.Suicide seemed the only answer at times and resulted in me taking an overdose last year.I now feel I can look to my future with hope and a better understanding. Please read this life-saving book and learn who you are and how to live with yourselves. You deserve happiness after the trauma these people have put us through. Last but not least I want to thank Penny Parks from the bottom of my heart for giving the will to survive and for giving me a special family inside of me.Good luck for the future Penny. We all who read this book owe you so much.
