Product Description

'Take a view', the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition, is the brainchild of Charlie Waite, one of today's most respected landscape photographers. Together with the AA, he has created this prestigious competition and award with a total prize fund exceeding GBP 20,000, plus an eight-week exhibition at the National Theater and publication of "Landscape Photographer of the Year", the full-color book of best entries, which has been hugely successful in its first two years. Britain's heritage is celebrated by people around the world and entries are welcome from everyone, whether resident in the UK or simply visiting, as long as the image is from the British Isles. This book showcases the best pictures from amateur and professional photographers alike, from the third annual competition.

Almost As Good As Volumes One and Two. But Still Worthwhile In its Own Right...4
I own the other volumes in this series as well as those in the Garden Photographer Of The Year, and so expected this to be at least as great as its forebears. However, I must admit just a little disappointment. Why? The number of exceptional photos has dwindled with the release of this latest book, and the number of (admittedly) very good (as opposed to brilliant) photographs has increased - not that there's anything wrong with 'very good' photos! It's just that this latest volume is arguably just a little less inspiring overall; and the flashes of brilliance with which I became accustomed in previous volumes are noticeably fewer in number.

Is it still a worthwhile purchase? For almost everyone interested in photography the answer is a 'yes'. That being said, those on a budget should definitely buy volumes One and Two, and perhaps skip this one, which often feels almost like the 'B sides' to the previous volumes. In other words, I still feel that most persons would still enjoy this LPOTY Vol 3 - just not as much as they might otherwise expect, given how brilliant the other books in this series are.

But then I thought, what if the previous volumes hadn't existed!? Would this be very good in its own right? Indeed it would. So, in conclusion, I still like this book enough to give it 4/5 stars, and hope that the next in the series will be even better.

Superb Photographs5
Just looking at the pictures is a treat but you also get a brief summary of equipment and settings for each image which, for a photographer, is very useful.

Superb landscapes5
Not only are the shots stunning but the paragraph with each by the photographer offers an insight into why and how they took the shot.
The section at the back which details camera used, some settings and a mention of Photoshop techniques is also very handy to an aspiring landscape photographer.
I am using this as a reference guide to enhance the college course I am attending, also as an inspiration for my own landscape shots. It would also be great for people that just love to look at landscape photography at its best. I can assure you there will be something for everyone as there are a variety of different photography styles within the book.
