A great graphics package
Corel draw has been one of the best vector graphics packages available for a while and this new version hit the mark as usual. The user interface is simple to use, even for a non-graphically minded person like me. The ability to produce simple and great looking vector graphics for use in web pages and software applications makes this a perfect addition to any developers tool kit. It provides a greater degree of flexibility than Microsofts Expression Design (Microsoft Expression Studio) whilst keeping the application straightfoward to use.
The photo editing software included is quite good but realy is not match for the superb Corel Paintshop Pro (Paint Shop Pro Photo X2). Power Trace is a great bitmap to vector converter which enables this product to easily compeate with Adobe illustrator and certainly win in terms of usability for the no graphics designer.
There is one fly in the ointment, there is a problem with this program when it is installed on a machine with SQL Server 2008 installed the application fails to run. There is a fix availbale from the Corel Web site to correct this issue.
The BEST graphics software from the WORST company!!!!
My experince with Corel, the company, is very negative, and that is why:
I have been a very loyal customer to Corel since version 3.0. I have upgraded to almost all versions (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and X4) That is over 18 years of loyalty, with thousands of US dollars spent. I ordered X4 upgrade from Amazon UK over a year ago. I never had any real problem with the software, so I never needed to call Corel tech support, until I had to reformat my PC. I lost the DVD disk. I sent Corel email about this problem, and asking for a disk replacement, and I mentioned that I am willing to pay for the disk, and shipment. A rude person named Joselito asked me to provide the following in order to send me the disk:
1. Images of the...
A. front view of box
B. bottom view of box (where product code is)
C. authenticity card
D. receipt from Amazon
After I sent him his request, he replied without even saying "sorry", saying that he cannot send the disk, and that I must call him first, and that is a costly international phone call. I told him it is inconvenience to call because it is very costly, and I may end up paying for the phone bill more than it cost to buy a new CorelDraw package, not to mention the big difference in the time between my country and America!! He ignored my request, and replied with cold blood that I must call, or he cannot help!!! What kind of company in the 21st century, and in the information age, they cannot handle such simple task via email or chat?!!!
I had to buy a new CorelDraw X4 package (Full version) few months ago. And last week, I upgraded my PC to Windows 7 Pro, and had to reinstall all software's. The problem now is that I also misplaced the disk of CorelDrawX4 again, so I downloaded the trail version, and logged in to my account at Corel.com to retrieve my serial number. After install went smoothly, I was asked by the software to activate the software, when I try to do it, I get an error saying invalid serial number!!!! I sent, again, email to Corel about this problem, and they gave me instructions on how to solve this problem, which it did not work. Then I was asked, AGAIN, to call them in order to solve this problem!! Corel tends to have this very stupid policy of that you have to call to solve the problem!!!!
Anyway, I said for myself, what the heck, let's call them and see what happens, even though I know it will cost me a lot of money. So, today, I called international phone number, and after 10 minutes on hold, a real person asked me what the problem is? I told her I have difficulty activation my software. She asked for my order number, and I told her I do not have it handy, and then she asked for my serial number, and my email in Corel account. I gave her what she asked, and she put me on hold for 5 minutes, then told me that I cannot activate the disk version, and that I must uninstall CorelDraw, and reinstall from the disk. I told her that I lost the disk, and I have no other option. She said she cannot send me a replacement disk because Corel do not ship to my country!! I told her so what to do? She said I have to contact my local reseller for that. I told her that there is NO local reseller for Corel products in my country! She said with a rude tone: sorry... I cannot do anything for you!!!!! That is it??? I wasted 25 minutes of international call for nothing!!! I paid for 2 CorelDraw X4 packages, and I cannot use them??!!! What kind of support is this?? What kind of company is this?? This is by far the worst service I received from all companies I dealt with!!!
In conclusion: CorelDraw! X4 is great software that is supported by the worst company on earth in my opinion.
Still outstanding value
Corel Draw X4 is IMHO the best version yet, and a a great tool for designers and photographers. I also use the 'industry standard' software, and while it is good, I inevitably come back to Corel Draw and PhotoPaint - they're much more intuitive to use and I can always get the job done faster. The way the two programs work together is smooth, and the additional bitmap tools built into C Draw is very welcome. The only thing I miss is an image browser/organiser along the lines of Bridge built into the program, but the excellent Thumbs Plus does the job. Corel Draw X4 is not only excellent value for money compared to the alternatives, it does the job just as well.
