Features
- These bulbs are the newest generation and use the most modern designs. You may have used cheap, unbranded or previous generation compact fluorescent bulbs and been disappointed by their size, brightness, light quality or value. But please don't think these are the same. They are not - they are much better!
- Their average lifespan is 6,000 hours (typically 6 years use). Normal incandescent light bulbs have a lifespan of only 1,000 hours (typically one years use).
- Because of their long life, bulb changes are far less frequent. This can be a big advantage for difficult to reach lights, such as those in rooms with high ceilings or above staircases.
- They generate 70% less heat than normal bulbs and their operating temperature is much lower. Typically the glass temperature will be about 40°C, compared to 150°C for a normal bulb. Hence light fittings, light shades and adjacent walls and ceilings remain cooler, and this can reduce the damage and discolouration due to heat.
- By replacing every light fitting in the home with a low-energy bulb, the average family could save up to £240 per year." [Energy Saving Trust]
Customer Reviews
My bit at reducing my carbon footprint
Bah, Humbug. Global warming... Earth's geological history demonstrates the cyclic climate changes. When I went to school, it was a mix of Ice Age and not. Now, to scare folks whenever they can, scientists come up with a different frighteners every five years or so. When I was still at school, coffee was a killer. The fat from meat was all my grandparents could afford, but it never killed them off before their time!
So, back to the product review. It saves energy, which equates to saving me money. That is what inspires me to buy such goods. I cannot give a fair judgement on the light given out, as the one 18 watt bulb I have is working in tandem with a 100 watt GLS bulb, which outshines this one.
However, personal thoughts about climate change aside, these bulbs are said to save money. I have low energy bulbs just about everywhere else in my home, and have become adjusted to their need to warm up to operating temperature.
For people on a budget (like me), these bulbs, and more like them, will save our electric bills becoming too high.
