Average customer review:Product Description
For a band whose members are known for not taking themselves too seriously, THE DECLINE is a serious affair. If such a genre exists, "progressive punk" would be the best way to describe the single, 18-plus-minute track that makes up this EP. There are drastic lyrical shifts in THE DECLINE. Cynical tongue-in-cheek prose gives way to warnings concerning the glorification of violence. What follows is a diatribe covering the hypocrisy of the judicial system, the mind-numbing effects of television, and the loss of integrity. The conceptual thread that seems to connect it all is a general apathy inthe collective consciousness of America, as Fat Mike sings,"The going gets tough / the tough get debt / don't pay attention / pay the rent / our next of kins pays for your sins".NOFX has delivered its rallying cry for independent thought, and it is THE DECLINE.

The ultimate guide to a punk manifesto
When I first heard it I thought it was great. Now with the genius lyrics tatooed into my brain I swear this is so beautiful yet so callous that it brings tears to my eyes. The start builds up a rage, the feeling drifts in through the middle as more of a depressed rythmn comes in. The final few minutes, the verse about human existance. I want that to be documented as life. It sums up everything that is modern life, There are also hidden details that you miss, like the sound of the iron lung in the background, and the troops marching at the end show how punk has more levels than 3 chord wonders. I urge everyone who wants enlightenment to buy this.
Different but the same.
When my friend told me that NOFX had a 18 minute song E.P. coming out, I was afraid that NOFX had become a pompous punk band with no one but themselves to entertain. Dude, I couldn't have been more wrong. Instead of appearing out of their depth, they fit snugly into the aspiring genre. Using the whole band's range of vocals, skills, endless energy, and enthusiasm. from hardcore punk pace to deeply moody strumming over what sounds like Darth Vader breathing, its a winner. I would give it more stars if I could.
I had my doubts..
When I first heard that nofx's next release was an EP, with only one 18 minute track, I was so quick to critise it. When my mate bought, I thought he was a complete sucker. However when I heard it, I was astonished. If you like nofx, you cannot fail to like this. The vocals are amazing, the riffs are great, the lyrics (for a change) are stunning, and the melodies are emotinal and beautiful. ANd the way the song finishes is just brilliant. I know its a bit unfair 'cos its 18 mins long, but this is easily nofx's best ever song. My only complaint is that it is over too quickly. I have to say, this EP contains the best punk I have heard, with incredible intensity and great tunes. Buy this and you wont regret it (providing you like nofx)
