Editorial Reviews

Review
Our eponymous heroine, the 'sharp, witty' columnist for a national magazine, lands the role of Elizabeth Bennet in a fundraising production of Pride and Prejudice. Despite constantly reinforcing exactly how sharp and witty she is throughout the story, somehow, she neglects to recognise her very own Darcy, in the dashing shape of Harry Noble: Oscar-winner, heart-throb and the director of the play, no less. All the characters are well crafted, and the author expertly develops the love story, obviously drawing on her own experiences as a journalist to convey the humour and heartache of show business. It's an engaging little number which mirrors Jane Austen's most famous work, if rather frantically. Nonetheless, it serves to prove that old stories are still pertinent; classic romance translates smoothly, but this debut novel demonstrates that it is the way you tell them. (Kirkus UK)

More about PRIDE, PREJUDICE & JASMIN FIELD
"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a large ego must be in want of a woman to cut him down to size."

Sharp, witty Jasmin Field has her own column in a national magazine and has just landed the coveted role of Elizabeth Bennet in a one-off fundraising adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Better yet, the play’s director, Hollywood heartthrob and Oscar-winner, Harry Noble, is every bit as obnoxious as she could have hoped. Which means a lot of material for her column. And a lot of fun in rehearsals.

And then disaster strikes. Jazz’s best friend abandons her for a man not worthy to buy her chocolate, her family starts to crumble before her eyes and her award-winning column hits the skids. Worse still, Harry Noble keeps staring at her.

As the lights dim, the audience hush and Jazz awaits her cue, she realises two very important things: she can’t remember her lines and Harry Noble looks amazing in breeches...

A hilarious debut novel - Jane Austen as you’ve never seen her before!

Great!4
This book is highly recommendable! I love the way that Melissa Nathan has turned the loveable Pride and Prejudice into a modern masterpiece.
I only give it four stars as the only problem is you can see the plot straight away, especially if you are a P+P fan like myself.
Otherwise this has been a highly enjoyable read, and all my friends who also bought the book have said the same as I have.
I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys, 'girly type novels'

Laugh aloud funny5
I loved this book... I loved the heroine, the hero and there were lines in there that had me laughing like a loony. I would recommend this to anyone and Ms Austen fans will get an extra buzz from it. And if you loved this - read Persuading Annie too. Marvellous!

In need of a new copy -- I've worn mine out!5
I admit it, I hated reading Pride and Prejudice as a kid. However, I do own the TV version w/ Colin Firth as Mr Darcy, and after seeing that show, I read the book again and loved it.

Which is what drew me to this book. I love the idea of updating a classic, especially if you cannot necessarily see the original story in the update. That's how this book is: the characters stand alone; while mirroring Darcy, Elizabeth, Jane and the others, Ms. Nathan's characters are thoroughly modern people with modern flaws.

And if you aren't familiar with P&P (and there are a LOT of people in the USA who aren't), I think you'll still enjoy this book. I've shared the book with friends who wouldn't know Austin from Bronte or even Shakespeare (seriously!), and they enjoyed the book immensely!
