A very useful guide book
This is a very useful guide book. Whilst not as detailed as some guide books, all essential information is there and the illustrations are both attractive and informative. I have not spotted any factual errors (at least so far), although information can and does change. I am a Scot and have bought a copy of this book for non-Scottish friends planning a holiday in Scotland. It would also make a good souvenir of a Scottish holiday.
D.K Scotland - A Good Guide To Mainland Scotland But........
Poor For The Scottish Islands!
We bought this guide when we were going on holiday to the Isle Of Skye and Perthshire. On the whole the guide was pretty good, but irritatingly there was very poor information on the Isle Of Skye (only 2 pages, of which 50% is a picture of some Loch)!
So, we ended up having to consult a £5.99 Ordnance Survey Map instead!
Fortunately the guide proved useful (luckily) when we arrived at Perthshire. There was very detailed info from a Whiskey Distillery (The Famous Grouse Experience) to
Glamis Castle (The Queen Mother's Childhood Home).
So on the whole I give this Guide Book 7.5/10
An excellent guide to Scotland even if you're Scottish
We were looking for a Guide for things to do in Glasgow and the surrounding area and happened upon this book ! It provides an excellent guide to the whole of Scotland, even covering areas near to where we live that we never knew about ! The town center maps that are provided are very accurate and clearly understood, the Glasgow maps saved us getting lost on more than one occasion. This book is a must not only for the foreign tourist but the Scottish day tripper too !
