Synopsis
Did you know that most tartans date only from 1822? Or that Scotland had electric lighting 70 years before Watt patented the light bulb? This text reveals Scotland's two secret histories: the things Scots are famous for and shouldn't be, and the things they are not famous for but should be.
Customer Reviews
Brilliant alternative history of Scotland
At last a book that wipes away all the nonsense about Scots history and, as a bonus, contains a wealth of little known facts about Scotland's past. The breadth of subjects covered is astounding. Incisive, funny, fascinating and beautifully written.
a great little book full of surprises
As a Scot, I thought I knew my country fairly well. I could not have been more wrong. The Emperors New Kilt throws new light on myths and legends I tohught were set in stone, and raises new points that I never knew and thought were unlikely. I will never look at my country with complacency again.
