DVD Description
This mock rock opera is an all-singing, all-dancing, star-spangled musical leap around the biblical story of the Nativity, set in 1972. Written by Matt Berry (music) and Richard Ayoade, it was shown on TV at Christmas 2004 on BBC Three - Richard Ayoade also directed it - and has continued to attract a growing number of avid cult comedy fans every since.

With a comic twist, this familiar story is brought to life through the eyes of the innkeeper (Matt Berry). Despairing after a bad year, he contemplates suicide but his attempt is stalled by a voice from above who points out that King Herod is coming to town.

Starring; Matt Berry, Julia Davis, Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding (Mighty Boosh's Howard Moon and Vince Noir), Richard Ayoade, Tom Hillenbrand, Karl Theobald, Lydia Fox, Lucy Montgomery, Sophie Winkleman, Marc Cieslak, Sean Douglas, Laurence Fox and Rich Fulcher.

Synopsis
This innovative reworking of the Nativity remodels the classic biblical tale and transposes the events to 1972 and told through the eyes of the innkeeper.

The Funniest Thing Since Sliced Bread!!!5
AD/BC - A Rock Opera is a gem. I stumbled across it in june 2007 and it had me in creases.

I cant tell you how many times i watched it over the christmas period.

If you're a fan of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, The Mighty Boosh or Man to Man with Dean Learner, you'll love this!

AD/BC5
This is a brilliant piece of work showcasing Matt Berry both as a performer and composer. Clever, funny and entertaining, it has a great cast and wonderful 1970s feel. As well as the show itself, there is an extended soundtrack and a superb mock interview with Tim Wynde (Berry) about the writing of the opera which alone is worth the price of the dvd.

AD/BC - A Rock Opera5
The little comedy circle which takes in cast members of modern comedy classics such as The Mighty Boosh and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace here come together to create a real gem of a show. Showing off the musical skills of Matt Berry, this tells the story of the Nativity from the viewpoint of the Innkeeper.

As the previous reviewer has said, this is at once a mickey-take and love-letter to seventies rock operas, especially Jesus Christ Superstar, which it is most closely resembles. However, the songs are brilliant enough to make this a quality musical in its own right, and turns from Julian Barratt, Julia Davis and Richard Ayoade make sure all the jokes hit the mark too.

Truly, a mini-materpiece.
