Manufacturer's Description
Best motion picture reproduction
Watching TV is about moving images rather than still images. A still image in high resolution looks brilliant on almost any HD TV, but when the images are moving, you can see a clear quality difference as many TVs have difficulties to display fast moving contents without motion blur.
All Panasonic plasma TVs are equipped with 100Hz technology. This superb technology doubles the output frame rate, meaning the gaps of time between image frames are lessened. The more frames inserted, the smoother the overall imaging will be for the human eye. The 100Hz technology is a major benefit to you as it aids in creating flicker-less moving images.
Natural Colours
When choosing your flat screen TV, a key element to consider is the depth and quality of colours it reproduces.
With plasma technology, every pixel comprises three separate sub-pixel cells, each with different coloured phosphors – red, green and blue (RGB). These colours are blended together to create the overall colour of the pixel and are controlled by the level of electric current flowing through them. Plasma technology can display billions of differing combinations of RGB – providing a wide range of natural colours.
Fast Response Time
A TV screen response time is a measure of how fast its pixel can complete one full picture ‘cycle’, so that they are ready to play a part in the next frame of the picture. TV screens with long response times can have problems refreshing every element in their pictures rapidly enough to keep up with fast motion, resulting in moving objects looking blurred and smeared.
Plasma TVs can present moving objects without loss of crispness or detail. Plasma technology needs only one impulse per pixel to produce an image. Its response time is only 0,001 msec. which is a thousand times faster compared to other technologies making Plasma TVs perfect for gaming.
Ultimate Contrast
Consider contrast performance – in other words – how well a flat screen TV produces and manages black and white tones and all the tones in between the two! The quality of the contrast ratio performance lies in the fact that it highly influences whether the picture will look real, or not.
Because plasma TVs are using hundreds of self-illuminating cells instead of cathode fluorescent lamps, where a permanent backlight shines, plasma TVs are able to control the brightness of each individual pixel which enables them to achieve tones by switching off/on each individual pixel. The result is a very realistic picture that has a dynamic contrast ratio of 1.000.000:1 which other technologies with permanent backlight can not achieve.
Ultra wide viewing angle
When you buy a large screen TV, you will probably find yourself surrounded by lots of friends to join you on game day, or for a movie! With a large family, or group gathering, you want to ensure that everyone has the “best seat in the house”, so everyone can enjoy the best possible TV viewing experience!
Plasma TVs can actually be watched from very wide viewing angles without any significant loss in picture quality (colours, contrast, shadowing, etc.). This is in thanks to the ingenious way that plasma TVs emit light directly from each of their screen cells or pixels. Guaranteed, everyone watching the plasma TV will have the best seat in the house!
Impact Resistant
With the success of gaming consoles using motion controllers has led to an increase in the occurrence of TVs being accidentally damaged by controllers that have slipped out of player’s hands.
All Panasonic VIERA plasma TVs are protected by a front sheet of glass resistant to impacts of up to four joules. This is particularly reassuring for families with small children and energetic gamers!
V-Audio: Sound technology to put you in the heart of the action
The V-Audio technology offers outstanding clarity, rich bass, and superior sound localisation in the medium frequency range, in short, the sound quality is above and beyond expectations for a TV.
The advanced ultra-slim speaker units not only benefit the overall aesthetics of the VIERA TV, but also deliver sounds all the way down to 350Hz - the kind of deep sounds which would normally be handled by a woofer in conventional systems. Even with its narrow aperture, the new speakers unit has superb directional characteristics, so everyone in the room enjoys outstanding sound quality.
The woofers use an enhanced passive radiator system to deliver and incredibly deep, clear sound. Using asymmetrical, contoured edges to prevent harmonic distortion that can occur with conventional passive radiator systems, this enhanced system delivers clearer sound than bass reflex systems of the same size.
V-Audio Surround Sound
V-Audio Surround technology, based on SRS TruSurround XT or BBE ViVA HD3D Sound, is a virtual surround system convincingly giving you the effect of a multi-channel system with fantastic bass response and detail, with only two speakers. Thanks to V-Audio Surround you can transform your living room in to a live concert hall or cinema, without having to clutter it up with a multi-channel surround sound system.
VIERA Easy Operation: One Remote, Total Control
VIERA Link gives you unprecedented power over compatible Panasonic products so that you can use just a single remote control to manage your entire AV system. It works by making full use of the capabilities of HDMI, the digital interface which combines uncompressed high-definition video and multi-channel audio in a single digital cable. For end-users, the fact that just a single cable carries audio and video signals dramatically simplifies the installation of home theatre systems and eliminates the cable quagmires of the past. VIERA Link now takes this convenience to the next level by enabling users to use the same HDMI cables to also transmit control signals between different devices. What that means is you get universal control of all your HDMI home theatre equipment, without having to try to figure out which remote control to use. Just point the VIERA remote at your TV, and the signal will travel over the HDMI wires to the right piece of equipment.
Using only the VIERA Remote Control it is possible to operate and control your DIGA DVD Recorder, Blu-ray Disc Player, or HD Camcorder. At the touch of a button, you are simply and easily able to playback a previously recorded programme, record a future broadcast, or even pause live TV if you have DIGA DVD Recorder attached to your VIERA via HDMI. Similarly you can play back a film in glorious Full HD quality using your connected Blu-ray Disc Player using just your VIERA remote. Even your Panasonic HD Camcorder can be operated, when attached to your VIERA, using only the same VIERA remote control! Say goodbye to the confusion and hassle of switching between several different remote control units - it doesn't get any easier than this.

Exceptional quality display
I bought one of these after having a Panasonic px80 for a short period. These unit need proper bedding in for the first few hundred hours display (or much shorter if you use a utility like jscreenfix). The display does improve further after this bedding in period.
To keep this short, the display is excellent, both SD and HD despite this only being a HD ready resolution. Blacks are deep and detail is fabulously clear,
Regarding size: You need at least a 12 *12 room for these 42" screens not to be somewhat overpowering. I would suggest that for smaller rooms the 37" model would give a better experience.
The only downsides i see are :
Overscaling if turned off shows that these units need better screen aligninment from the factory. 3 out of 4 units I have viewed had relatively minor but irritating screen alignment issues which cannot be adjusted without accessing the engineers service menu (which could invalidate your warrenty).
The on-board tuner appears to be poorer quality than the older px8 models.
Other than that, the quality is utterly superb as long as you have good quality input. Sky gives mainly superb pictures from SD channels. VM's cable is far more varied.
Go for it !
If like me, you've had a good telly ( in my case a Sony 28" 4:3 CRT )for over 20 years and are totally bemused by the wide array of LCD widescreens now available and you would like to upgrade but don't want the expense of HD - Fear not - you have found the solution!!!
Ignore the hype and hesitate no more, click on one of these beauties while you still can!
This Plasma screen has a tough glass front - No worries.
Plug in and switch on - No complex setting up (picture excellent and will even get better as it beds in (we are told!))
I am using a sky+ and a standard DVD player without upscaling and the colours and motion are spectacular.(Cannot therefore comment on built in Freeview).
Not tried it yet but it seems possible to insert SD cards on the side to view all your digital photos as well.
Final point: Do not waste money on a gold-plated HDMI lead UNLESS your equipment has an HDMI output!!!! This may sound obvious but I know plenty of people who have....... I am using SCART leads from Tesco....
Pretty good plasma
Have looked at the purchase of a larger flat screen to replace my 27" Panasonic CRT for some time. The reviews on this one were quite good and for the price it seemed good value so I gave it a go. Came by Amazon free delivery in two days so no problem there, easy to set up.
Very pleased with it, I'm not a techie but it was easy to adjust colour balance etc and picture is very natural compared with LCDs I have looked at.Works great on the built in freeview and also works also well with my Panasonic DVD recorder on the Viera link. Overall a straight forward no bells and whistles tv, just right for what I wanted and I would recommend it to anyone.
