A great start to '744
This compilation CD is Elvis' first season at the Hilton under his revised contract. The matinee show has been dropped and the engagement has been cut to 2 weeks.
Recorded Jan 26 - Feb 9, 8pm and midnight.
An excellent album, Elvis is having a good time, his voice is good and there are none of the long introductions/monologues that became standard by the end of the year (Desert Storm, College Park etc).
The bonus tracks are worth the money alone.
Although theres nothing really different in the line up, the songs are performed with much more energy than in '73. Along with the FTD release of Elvis' Memphis concerts in March '74 (Hello Memphis and Alternative Memphis) i would say that this CD is Elvis at his best in 1974.

He Found His Thrill!4
A great welcome release from the 'Follow That Dream' people!

This is the first official representation of Elvis' short winter Vegas engagement of January/February 1974, and this being the Dinner Show of January 27th is a good representation.

Elvis is in a great focused performing mode and the CD kicks right from the off. There are some rare songs from '74 on this one too - "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", "Sweet Caroline", "Polk Salad Annie", and 2 performances of "Let Me Be There" at this very same show. Another highlight is the nice version of "Spanish Eyes" with Sherrill Nielsen duetting and a good version of "An American Trilogy". The Extra Songs appear to be the 'Jewel in the crown' from this CD including a lovely version of Roberta Flack's hit song "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", and the well-constructed "I Found My Thrill" medley of "Blueberry Hill"/"I Can't Stop Loving You".

I am indeed very appreciative of Elvis' performance on this release and would have given the CD a 5-Star rating if this soundboard recording would have been of better quality. However, it is very much an enjoyable listen and sounds better than a number of soundboards that have been released so this is not really a complaint.
