Synopsis
The worst terrorist attack to date on American soil, the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York's World Trade Center and Washington, D.C.'s Pentagon were an unimaginable nightmare of death and destruction. Out of all of the horror though, came a newfound compassion and solidarity between diverse citizens all over America. The innate generosity and kindness of humanity came out in full-force, and that is what in large part is explored in this documentary program, AMERICA 911, which details that infamous day. Exclusive footage of the attack and subsequent rebuilding process makes up this riveting and heart-wrenching film. 20% of the proceeds from sales will go to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
From the Back Cover
The destruction of the World Trade Centre and the attack on the Pentagon has forever changed our lives. Within minutes of the first explosion, CanneraPlanet’s video journalists hit the streets and began shooting extraordinary videos of the tragedy, as seen through the eyes of the people who were literally at "Ground Zero". For the next twenty-four hours and beyond they captured unforgettable moments of people as they experienced the unthinkable. America 9/11 is a compelling, horrifying, heart rending and at times, uplifting glimpse into the lives of ordinary Americans. Much of the footage is exclusive, never before seen. It is one of the defining events in our history, one which we will never forget.

Shocking - modern history in the making
You rarely get the chance to see history being made. You can read about 911 as much as you like, but there is nothing that prepares you for seeing footage of the building collapsing around the people inside.
I like reading about modern history, but bought this in place of any book. This history is visual and this DVD is a shocking and moving account of a day that changed the world. I'll show it to my kids when they are old enough to understand.
'America 9/11' DVD
This documentary succeeds in bringing out a narrative of the events of 9/11 as they unfolded for the people of New York by inter-weaving news images of the attack with amateur footage and interviews of people on the street who witnessed it, and some interviews of those who managed to escape from the World Trade Towers before they collapsed.
Overall the documentary is a comprehensive and thorough account, and the choice of footage, as well as its arrangement, conveys an awareness of the magnitude of the events and the immediate effect they had on those witnessing everything first-hand.
A degree of subtly in the voiceover would have enhanced this documentary further, since at one point the towers are described as "gigantic matchsticks in an inferno of jet fuel", and a little later we are also informed of the quantitive values of concrete and glass that have reigned upon the city and how much sidewalk and glazing this would be equivalent to. These poorly chosen descriptions seem clumsy and unneccessary and detract from an otherwise well presented collection of footage.
Presented with compassion
This has to be one of the most moving pieces of documentary ever seen. Starting as a basic overview of life in a NY fire station, the events that unfold on the day of 9/11 become immensely harrowing through the lense of the Naudet brothers. Their footage takes you through what those at ground zero were experiencing as it was happening. It is too cliche to say you get a feeling of what it was like as that is impossible, but you are touched by the horror of what they are experiencing.
This is a strong piece of cinematography that is very upsetting, but I felt handled with humility and in a very compassionate way.
