Editorial Reviews
CD Description
This is the fourth studio album from Lemar, the first man in noughties British soul. As we've come to expect from the smooth Tottenham-born ex-Fame Academy student, 'The Reason' is a slinky affair, with songs such as 'Mayday' and 'If She Knew' standing out as examples of his ballad mode. The release also sees Lemar return to his harder soul roots with the sessions benefiting from an array of producers. Jack Splash, Salaam Remi and Jim Johnson were all behind the glass, contributing to an album that sees Lemar move a step closer to anAmerican RnB sound.

Another Reason To Believe
Tottenham has every reason to be proud of young Mr Obika.
A class act becoming classier with each successive album.
The Reason, his fourth release, finds the man and his voice
in very fine fettle indeed.
The ten tracks deliver a coherent and satisfying aural experience.
Our hero's flexible and mellifluous tenor continues to mature in
both range and expressive power.
'The Reason', 'Weight Of The World' and 'If She Knew'
all deliver a lyrical and uplifting experience with
their strong melodies and complex harmonic arrangements.
'Heartbreaker' rips up the rug and rocks. The rough edges
in the vocal enhancing the band's energetic performance.
The ska-ish beats of 'Trust Me' skitter along merrily.
The old soul-train strains of 'Over You' are a pure delight.
'Mayday' gives us the true heart of this fine recording.
A really beautiful song - beautifully sung.
The sharp rhythmic syncopation of 'Wait Forever';
'Not What You Say' with it's tight horn arrangement
and the plaintive 'Black Tide' bring this fine project
to an affecting close.
Good wholesome stuff from one of the best on the block.
Highly recommended.
Stunning!
If you thought his single 'If She Knew' was good, just wait til you hear the rest of his new album! Whilst the lead single is a stunning return for Britain's best R'n'B artist, the whole album is packed with songs of the same quality. Anthemic title track 'The Reason' sets the tone; 'Weight of the World' is a soulful ballad and would rip the charts apart; there's a funky brass section in 'Little Miss Heartbreaker' that would put Mark Ronson to shame; and 'Wait Forever' harks back to the brillant Kaci&JoJo whose ballad-with-beat style is tributed here. In short, a stunning album...
Amazing!!!
