Product Description

'Wuthering Heights' is one of the most powerful stories ever written. This beautiful clothbound edition is part of a series of readers' best-loved classics published in fine volumes, and produced to the highest standards for under GBP20: making an affordable luxury. Instead of a dust jacket, the decorated cloth covers have a printed illustration wrapping around the book. The cover illustration of 'Wuthering Heights' was commissioned from designer Celia Birtwell, the muse of David Hockney and a designer renowned since the 60s for her fabrics which defined the look of the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Paloma Picasso. This edition of Wuthering Heights also has coloured page tops, decorated endpapers, meticulous line-by-line typesetting and thick acid-free paper are among the elements that differ from standard hardbacks, so these editions embody the virtues of a good book. The result is quality of design and production that adds to the pleasure of reading and makes each book a desirable object in itself. The text includes a fascinating insight into Emily Bronte and her novel by her sister, Charlotte, the author of Jane Eyre. For anyone interested in a fine edition of a favourite work, this is an attractive volume for the bookshelf or an authentic and distinctive present.

I love this story from the film and tv so wanted the book to compare. The book is gorgeous and really sturdy. The cover is lovely and a perfect book for keeping and passing down. So glad i chose this as opposed to one of the smaller ones. Its not too big to hold and read!. Its the perfect addition to stand out on my bookshelf. Definitley one to buy!!!Wuthering Heights (Fine Edition)

I was over the moon when I first opened my package, as the book is beautifully presented. The book itself is a classic.. I'm in the process of updating my library of favourite books into hardback and will consider these additions again.

A h-e-a-v-y "read"!3
A heavy "read" - quite literally, I'm afraid!
The story of this classic novel is as fantastic as ever - but this quite large hardback book itself is bit cumbersome to hold, and definitely not a "handbag" sort... unless you're into weightlifting!

A bit of effort has obviously gone into producing this book. The cover isn't as dark as it appears, actually - there's a scattering of red on it (leaves, and also flowers on the "curtains" which are on the back of the cover) I suppose this is the view of the moors from Cathy's bedroom window, at Thrushcross Grange. The few flowers in the garden below would suggest a more decently-kept place than "W.H." itself, was! Yes - the quality of the actual paper used is a joy - the pages themselves though are grey on top, and plain everywhere else. There is also a white ribbon marker provided, the pages themselves are undecorated (apart fron the page numbers) and there re no illustrations in the book.

My big horror is the habit of printing the first word of the next page on the bottom of each right hand page throughout the book! There's a proper name for this which I've forgotten. I do hate it, though, and am compromising by holding my thumb over the relevant place, so it doesn't annoy me too much. To be fair, this is actually a very authentic detail, as it used to be done centuries ago, but I still find it annoying. The story is printed in Parts 1 and 2 - as would have been originally done.

On the whole, this is a good value purchase, but it's up to the individual to decide on the "weight" issue and also the "size" issue. I don't know why "decent" hardbook books have to be produced in such a large size. A collection of this series would need considerable space on your shelves to be displayed with the dignity they deserve!

The story itself is wonderful, as always. There's nothing lke settling down on a Winter's day with a good copy of a classic novel - and letting the wind and rain "wuther" to itself, outside!
