Product Description

Using wonderful fabrics, trims, and accents, the talented designers from Ruby Tag Bags have created more than 25 fabulous, one-of-a-kind purses that women will have to own and love to make. The design romance begins with classic materials, including colourful crazy quilts, delicate lace, and vintage velvet; unique adornments such as glistening mother-of-pearl buttons; and pretty ribbon and floral embellishments. Even the project names - like Camelot, Polka Dance, and Lady of Spain - have a touch of magic. The collection includes small evening bags, larger totes for travel to those exotic faraway locales, elegant silk designs, and enchanting purses with silver chains, gold linings, and looped fringe. In addition to luscious colour photographs of each project, there are patterns to make construction simple.

Stunning, fabulous designs5
I bought this book as a gift for a friend but as soon as I saw it I knew I had to have one too(!) so I "persuaded" my dear hubby to buy one for me. The book is bursting with sumptuous designs for vintage-style, romantic, frothy bags and it's so hard to choose one to start with.

The only drawback I can see is that I've yet to find anywhere in the UK that sells the trimmings and fabrics used to make the samples in the book, as it's written by the owners of a U.S. fabrics boutique. However, I had a look at their on-line shop and was tempted enough by their fantastic selection of vintage goodies to place an order for various bits and pieces, which arrived within 10 days and have inspired me to get started on my first bag, a crazy-patchwork concoction. To say I'm in creative stitching heaven is an understatement!

Can you tell I love this book?

Romance should be simple3
I thought this would be right up my street, romantic purses and I do like the two on the front cover. The ladies who created the designs certainly look romantic, like something out of a Jane Austen novel. Each design is unique. However, many of the designs inside are rather busy and I feel everything but the kitchen sink has been thrown into the designs. This is a case where less would have been more. Remember, however, that you can always alter the design to suit yourself, make it personal, create your own style.

Patterns and instructions are given for more than 40 purses. The patterns and instructions are clear and easy to use in this 144 page book. There are wonderful design tips given throughout the book. The Timeless Classic large silk bag is elegant and unfussy, so too Kismet in wool. Yet, as I said the majority of bags in this book have so much going on that they are overwhelming. The patterns work whatever you do with them, if you choose plainer fabrics and fewer embellishments, they might create that perfect romantic partner.

less than one star 1
I saw this book on amazon a few times and read the reviews which made it sound pretty decent. It's hard to tell from the cover but the two bags featured on there looked "ok" from a distance. Having now seen inside the book, I think you would have to have a screw loose to want to carry any of them around with you outside in public, let alone make them. They are completely over the top, over-embellished, overdone and really reminds me of crafts you used to do as a child with lots of leftovers and scrap fabrics. Truly appalling. Less is more people, and if you are going to have more, let's not have them looking like something your granny's granny might have had stashed away. Lots of lace, fake flowers, buttons, beads, and lots and lots of fringing on everything. In addition to that, all patterns included in the book have to be enlarged at 335%!!! They do have a website but it's full of curtain tassles, fringing, fake flowers etc that really don't need to be put on a handbag. Don't waste your time with this book.
