Not enough pictures of the finished article...
This book contains a lot of recipes for desserts I have never even heard of, so it was very enlightening to get a tour of (primarily) French desserts. If you are looking for something basic like how to make a lovely chocolate cake or simple tarts then this is not the book for you. Beginners with basic skills would be stretched with some of the complicated techniques. If you want to challenge yourself and make something you've never heard of or seen before and that probably tastes absolutely amazing then give it a try.
One very big disappointment for me was that there was only a small collection of photos of the actual recipes so I felt that I would be flying blind on how some of the finished desserts should look.
