Achingly beautiful this is a wise, funny and mythical fable whose protagonist is part picaresque eco-hero, part shadow of a country life lost. Mary Fedden's earthy renditions lodge in the brain: images of a leaf-clad one with a mermaid under each arm, or sharing Worcester Pearmains with the devil. Country Living

Not at all what it seemed to be
If you are interested in finding out proper facts about the origins of the green man, this is not the book for you. It is a ridiculous modern story based on the green man legend, not a factual examination of the history and origins of the green man as I had expected it to be from the synopsis. It reads like a childrens story, "The gold and rose coloured autumn is gone and in November comes the rain and the Green man's twelve sons in a minibus." If this is what you want then buy it.
a perfect partnership between author & illustrator
Royal Academician Mary Fedden's haunting and evocative paintings are the perfect backdrop to Jane Gardham's fresh adaptation of the Green Man legend. This slim and elegant hardback is a perfect gift which appeals to both adulds and children.
