Customer Reviews

Easy to read and understand underlying concepts5
This book is the best start you can get to Economics. It is clearly written and laid out (unlike the previous edition that was well written but hard to navigate and the colours of red and black really could put you to sleep)

Anyway, the book is easy to understand with a little maths to hinder the beginner. It develops onto all the main micro and macro issues but never loses the reader. The updated case studies are good and in my belief 80% of understanding economics, but for more developed case studies looking at other books would be more helpful, such as the Krugman Wells Economics range.

This is probably also recommended if you are new to economics as a 1st year undergraduate, as I recommened it to somebody who found it very useful.

I've found the book has reached its maximum usefulness in terms of understanding further concepts in the second semester of the 1st year of my Economics degree (Though I reference it occasionally). But for A Level, it's brilliant.

OK..But not that helpful2
Ok I'm not saying the book is bad or incorrect in anyway; it gives everything you need to know (well mostly) in a colourful spread-out way. However, the thing this book is not is concise. It seems to drag on a bit, the Anderton talks about some things that are quite insignificant to the exam in great detail whereas some things in a few words. Adding to this, the effects of various changes in the economy (inflation, gdp etc) are ranked in a highly unusual way. Things I consider most important (and which are most likely to come up in an exam) are usually explained in only a few sentences and are one of the last points to be made. I bought this book and now i have to consider selling it on. I've burrowed Slomans book from the library today and it seems much more appropriate for AS level. By the way I am looking for as much detail as possible as aiming for 100% on the AS modules (1 down 2 to go) but Anderton's is just over the top. I must say though it is an interesting book...just not great for exams. Man this review was long
