A gorgeous standalone score -- a really rare find
Subtly underpinning much of the emotional weight of the film Finding Neverland, this score -- specially released for standalone consumption, rather than simply taking the music from the film as-is -- leaves me speechless, time after time. It truly deserves its awards.
Jan Kaczmarek creates simple themes which are then endlessly improvised upon on a number of different instruments, changing from light delicate tones tinged with minor variations and filled with sadness to heavy piano work full of heartfelt emotions. Leszek Mozdzer's piano solos, specially created for this soundtrack album, add a depth to the themes which doesn't appear in the original movie score. The use of a boys' choir and various period instruments simply add to the realism and carry the music through to a fantasy world of its own..
Listening to this score one truly can find Neverland; the themes are emphasised in the film so that simply listening to the Imagination Waltz or the Family Theme in their many variations immediately transports the listener back to Hyde Park or the theatre... Most outstanding in their differences from these basic themes are tracks like 'Pirates' and 'The Peter Pan Overture', full of action and absolutely the most visual tracks I have listened to for a long time. The end tracks, including the spine-tingling 'Forgotten Overture' (the last on the album) are mesmerising in their sadness and underline the emotions so crucial to the end of the film; as the boundaries between imagination and the family become blurred, so do the musical themes.
A caveat -- if you buy this soundtrack it will leave you wanting to re-watch the film, so buy the DVD as well! (I certainly keep re-watching it to place where certain themes appear.. an activity that will keep me engrossed in Neverland for many more hours!)
soundtrack fans will love this
I enjoy most soundtracks, but this CD is simply breathtaking. Every song captures the magic from the film, and in some ways it takes you beyond it. The musical is magical, peaceful, inspiring and in a word "beautiful"
The park, The Play And The Flight and Forgotten Overture are by far some of the best pieces of music written for films in a long time. I listen to the CD for hours at a time- whether working, relaxing, or just wanting a bit of music
If i had to pick one soundtrack- it would be this one
