![]() | The Reality Dysfunction (Night's Dawn Trilogy) by Peter F. Hamilton
Buy new: £6.99 / Used from: £1.17 Fantastic beginning to a trilogy, massive plot threads all over the place, gradually coming togther. Fantastic. Sadly you won't see the second 2 parts on this list.

![]() | Ender's Game (The Ender Saga) by Orson Scott Card
Buy new: £5.49 / Used from: £1.99 A classic and prolly one you know about or have read, very compelling, and superior to the remainder of the series *let holy war commence*
![]() | Snow Crash: Microsoft Reader Level 5 by Neal Stephenson
Neal Stephenson, a very bad man, knows way too much about hacking to be entirely innocent. Snow Crash is a very interesting book, very dense on the information and ideas, you should love it.
![]() | The Diamond Age: Or, a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer by Neal Stephenson
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £1.41 I love this one, another Stephenson, kind of like Enders game actually, but with a cyberpunk, nanotech riff. Nanotech has taken over, hence the diamond age.
![]() | Pastwatch by Card Orson Scott
Buy new: £4.19 / Used from: £0.33 An amazing book, easily one of Card's best, very different to Ender's game but with a wonderful human and personal edge
![]() | Hyperion (Hyperion Cantos) by Dan Simmons
Buy used from: £0.01 I didn't pick this up for ages, jokes on me now. Difficult to describe, but one of the best books you'll ever read. I'd include the second one as well, but for me there wasn't any separation.
![]() | Altered Carbon (SF) (Gollancz S.F.) by Richard Morgan
Buy new: £2.48 / Used from: £0.95 The only one of Morgan's books on here so far, as the more recent ones have been rushed out on the back of this one. Nice and dirty cyberpunk, with a newish slant, violent but with reason.
![]() | Mindstar Rising by Peter F. Hamilton
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £1.06 One of the best Sci-fi detective novels around, and a must have for any Brits. Excellent british military stuff. Second book in the series is good also
![]() | The Praxis (Dread Empire's Fall) by Walter Jon Williams
Buy new: £2.97 / Used from: £0.42 Very well written, and funny, without losing the seriousness of the situation. I've already ordered the last in this series. If you've read WJW funny or serious before, this is an excellent mix
![]() | Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein
Buy used from: £35.78 Another classic, I read this book twice, just started it again straight after I finished it. Nothing like the film thank god *see previous comment about holy wars*
![]() | Wasp by Eric Frank Russell
Buy used from: £28.98 Prolly the best book by Russell IMO. Don't get the yellow Gollancz edition as it's abridged for no good reason. Deals with a man alone behind enemy lines, trying to make a shedload of trouble
![]() | Way Station (Collier Nucleus Science Fiction Classics) by Clifford D. Simak
Buy used from: £18.95 A wonderful story, very human again. As with wasp above, don't get the Gollancz edition.
![]() | Destroying Angel by Richard Russo
Buy used from: £0.01 A serial killer story set against one of the best cyberpunk backgrounds ever. Can be sad, beautiful, and sensational all in one go.
![]() | Svaha by Charles de Lint
Buy used from: £5.26 Difficult to find, or it was, great cyberpunk again, but again with another interesting slant. The mix of cultures and the relationships that develop are interesting and well written
![]() | A Plague of Demons by Keith Laumer
Buy used from: £1.99 My favorite Laumer, easily beyond any of the Retief stuff (although I still crack up at that) quite short, but easily worth the effort. Amazing how far you get carried in such a short time.
![]() | Dorsai! by Gordon R. Dickson
Buy used from: £0.01 Any of the Dorsai books could have filled this slot, they can be very samey, but are easily one of my favorite groups of books. Gotta read at least one.
![]() | V for Vendetta by Alan Moore
Buy used from: £5.99 I just have to include this, it's a graphic novel but don't let that put you off, you'll be missing something exceptional. It's my all time favourite, and a must read.
