	Sharpe's Tiger: Richard Sharpe and the Siege of Seringapatam, 1799 [Sharpe 1] by Bernard Cornwell Buy new: £3.99 / Used from: £0.01 B.C. made his name with the Sharpe books, read this, the first in the story arc and see why.
	Gates of Fire: An Epic Novel of the Battle of Thermopylae by Steven Pressfield Buy new: £6.39 / Used from: £2.40 An epic tale of the battle of Thermopylae.
	The Gates of Rome (Emperor) by Conn Iggulden Buy new: £3.49 / Used from: £0.01 The beginning to Iggulden's Emperor series. The books are thrilling and well written, if a little historically inaccurate in places.
	Viking: Odinn's Child No. 1 (Viking Trilogy) by Timothy Severin Buy new: £3.99 / Used from: £0.23 A captivating look at Viking society and pagan clashes with christianity. The first in a brilliant trilogy.
	Brethren (Brethren Trilogy 1) by Robyn Young Buy used from: £1.80 A look at the Crusades though the eyes of a young Templar and a Muslim warlord. I just hope the rest of the books are this good.
	Under the Eagle (Roman Legion 1) by Simon Scarrow Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.55 The beginning of Scarrow's series featuring the Roman Legionaries Macro and Cato. The series is currently 7 books long and great.
	The Guns of the South by Harry Turtledove Buy new: £4.87 / Used from: £5.66 What would happen if white supremacists went back in time to the American Civil War and supplied the Confederacy with AK-47s? A brilliant and involving novel.
	Pompeii by Robert Harris Buy new: £4.99 / Used from: £0.01 Back to the Romans with Harris's excellent Pompeii, complex and satisfying. Check out his latest book Imperium for more Roman goodness.
	Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow (Trojan War Trilogy): 1 by David Gemmell Buy new: £5.59 / Used from: £0.96 Gemmell has sadly passed away and will be much missed. Honour his memory by reading his last, excellent trilogy on ancient Troy.
	Dissolution by C.J. Sansom Buy used from: £0.44 Sansom's first Shardlake novel set at the time of the reformation of the church by King Henry VIII. A brilliant historical crime novel, check out the sequels, Dark Fire and Sovreign.

	Attila (Attila Trilogy 1) by William Napier Buy new: £0.01 / Used from: £0.01 A great book on the young Attila the Hun. The modern bad language may seem incongruous but a good read non the less.
	The Death of the Red King by Paul Doherty Buy new: £9.41 / Used from: £9.60 Who killed King William II "Rufus the Red King" of England? A well written and involving historical whodunnit.
