Soundtrack problem
This is one of Laurel and Hardy's best films but the DVD soundtrack has a problem. The black-and-white version of the main feature loses all sound for the last two or three minutes, so you have to either put on the subtitles or watch the very end in the colour version.
Their best film
Ah, what can you say, eh? "Sons of the Desert" ("Fraternally Yours" as it was known in the UK) is by far the boys' funniest film. Silly, timeless, gentle, generous dialogue and physical humour far excellence. And, as ever, it's all in the silences.
So many memorable lines, and a vicious performance from Mae Busch, who must have had a riot hen-pecking poor Oliver Hardy. It's the film of theirs I turn to over and over, like an old friend.
And now it's on DVD. So there are no excuses!
