Amazon.co.uk Review
When it was announced that Tom Cruise would play the vampire Lestat in this adaptation of Anne Rice's bestselling novel, even Rice chimed in with a highly publicised objection. The author wisely and justifiably recanted her negative opinion when she saw Cruise's excellent performance, which perceptively addresses the pain and chronic melancholy that plagues anyone cursed with immortal bloodlust. Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst are equally good at maintaining the dark and brooding tone of Rice's novel. And in this rare mainstream project for a major studio, director Neil Jordan compensates for a lumbering plot by honouring the literate, Romantic qualities of Rice's screenplay. Considered a disappointment while being embraced by Rice's loyal followers, Interview with the Vampire is too slow to be a satisfying thriller, but it is definitely one of the most lavish, intelligent horror films ever made. --Jeff Shannon

A feast!
Tom Cruise must have done a truly fine job with this role because I did not like Lestat when I read the book (and I read the book before it became such a sensation...) and I REALLY did not like Lestat when I watched the movie. I can, to some degree, understand everyone's fascination with him. He is the classic and ultimate sociopath; charming, seductive, souless...
I mentioned Cruise but I should say that everyone in this movie did a magnificent job with their roles...
The cinematography is lush as are the costumes.
In short, a feast! Drink deeply and enjoy!
interview with the vampire
this movie must be one of the best of its kind, when I first saw it years ago, alone in the dark, my parents asleep, after midnight.. and it was magical and I fell in love with Lestat. tom cruise has never looked as charming, as dark or charismatic and the way he moved his hands was just captivating.
in this movie meet three of my favourites, brad, tom and antonio and get synchronized in the glory of the ever breath-taking idea of vampirism and make it look real and beautiful and painful at the same time.
I am giving it five stars because it deserves them and because Tom alone earned those five stars with his performance.
I think I am in love with Lestat
I have read almost everyone of Anne Rice's books. Even those under different names. But none of that happened until I watched this film. I loved this film so much. I believe it might have been the best acting of Tome Cruise, Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas. Many say that it is easier to watch the movie than to read Ms Rice's books. I believe that the movie is a great way to introduce you to her books. It is a must see!
