The Way of the Horse
Way of The Horse is not a traditional set of tarot cards. The deck itself contains forty cards with stunningly beautiful illustrations of horses. These designs do not follow the normal themes and descriptions as seen in traditional tarot sets. Instead, the themes are related to archetypes in mythology and historical sources. Such archetypes cover a variety of issues within the general topics of experience, leadership, creativity, and transformation. These archetypes are then correlated to the mind set of a horse.
For anyone who has been around horses, you know that horses do not think at all like humans. They do not see good versus bad. Instead, they see each experience as an opportunity to learn about themselves and to grow in their creativity, authenticity, and leadership skills. Thus, in their horse-like worldview, Way of The Horse cards are used more for personal growth than fortunetelling.
Frankly, I think almost every child grew up wanting a pony. Many of us fell in love with horses at a very young age. Just seeing these beautiful illustrations is enough to want to pick up this set. Those that do so will not be at all disappointed. These cards are unique and very well suited to those wishing to work on themselves and grow as strong, creative, genuine beings.
Poignant beyond belief
I have been using these cards for insight and illumination on all sorts of things in my life from processing feelings to insight on a workshop I am planning. Studying the full set and selecting the card(s) I am drawn to in that moment while holding the 'issue' in my consciousness, has worked particularly well. Always the message is appropriate and insightful. I recommend these cards and book to anyone looking to deepen their insight, intuition and spirit.
Life viewed through a narrow perpective
When looked at all the cards in the deck for the first time, and they gave me a distinct impression of the author - introvert, loner, probably no kids, probably didn't get on with parents too well, low self esteem. Plus I noticed the cards stick a bit, so you have to shuffle really well!
Then did a reading and got card 40. The author recounted how she rode into the desert to escape people, and I thought, "why doesn't that surprise me?"
It is as if there is a huge part of the deck missing - almost everything to do with family and social interaction - there is only one picture of a mare and foal, and very few of herds (I think only one main one) whereas in a tarot pack there are subsidiary characters on almost all the cards. And I got the low self esteem from the depiction of nearly all the horses in a state of high alertness, pictorial aggrandisement.
So if you use them, and they are lovely cards, IMO, you need to remember you are interpreting through a rather narrow filter.
