Acoustic bliss from the guitar meister
This CD was the first release from Steve Hackett showing off his classical acoustic guitar training and what a stunner it is.
The feel of the songs is perfect, with a haunting production quality and tuneful melodies (no vocals here though), augmented on several tracks by John Hackett on flute. My favorites are the title track, "Kim" and "Petropolis" but there isn't a bad track on the album.
Now digitally remastered with three extra tracks (none of which improve the overall package hugely but are quite nice all the same)the sound quality is quite excellent.
I think that this CD is absolutely perfect for those quieter more meditative moments and is perfect for Sunday mornings, late nights etc. It certainly need not appeal only to prog fans who want all of Steve's albums.
If you like acoustic music like this then also give Steve's follow-up "Momentum" a listen.
Haunting
A friend of mine told a story of leather-clad rock fans turning up to a Hackett gig, not quite expecting what Steve played on the tour accompanying the release of this all-classical-acoustic-guitar album.
Hackett has always been an original and imaginative artist, able to write haunting and evocative music. This album is all that.
