Music for the Head and Heart!
The music industry in a fickle business, ruled as it is by fashion and pop. However there are artists out there producing work of beauty and depth. Pierre Bensusan is one of these.
His wonderful last album, Intuite, focused on Pierre's solo instrumental guitar work. Altiplanos develops this work whilst presenting a number of vocal pieces only heard by those lucky enough to see his live act. We also hear three group performances in which Pierre re-employs some of the electronics heard on earlier albums.
For me though it's the solo guitar pieces, demonstrating Pierre's outstanding compositional prowess, that do it for me. He is one of the most eclectic guitarist/composers currently performing and Altiplanos continues to draw on themes and colours from around the world. The journey starts with the joyous Sentimentales Pyromaniaques and ends on the reflective note of Chant De Nuit. Between these are gems, Le Dame De Clevedon - twists and turns, If Only You Know - sings sweetly. One piece stops you dead - Hymn 11 - Pierre's homage to the victims of terrorism and intolerance. The old clique, "the price of the CD is worth it for this alone", couldn't be truer!
Music speaks to the head, the heart and the belly. This is music for the head and heart - BUY IT!
