Product Description

This sumptuous publication is both a guide and a celebration of the beautiful border country that stretches the length of Wales, from coast to coast, from Chepstow to Prestatyn. When King Offa commissioned the building of this marvellous earthwork, could he possibly have imagined that over a thousand years later people would still be fascinated by the dyke? Jim Saunders enables armchair travellers to marvel at the wealth of wildlife or even dig into the turbulent history of borderlands..

Customer Reviews

Sumptuous and informative5
With stunning photographs and a lively text, this book is an inspiration which will draw you into the physically beautiful yet historically turbulent borderland between England and Wales.
The book is not only a beautifully illustrated guide to Offa's Dyke, Britain's longest archaeological monument and its accompanying National Trail (which does not necessarily always follow the same route!), but also a personal account of the author's own experiences and those of other people who have an interest in the area.
The author is well-qualified to produce this book. He was Offa's Dyke National Trail Officer for many years, before becoming a successful freelance landscape photographer.
Whatever your interest in Offa's Dyke, as a historian, geographer, walker or wildlife enthusiast, I recommend this book which captures the spirit of the area so convincingly. Even if you never walk the path yourself, you will feel transported there by the quality of the photographs and descriptions in this book.
