Product Description

Crossing decades and continents, SPARKLES is the totally compelling story of the Massot family. Fabulously wealthy, internationally adored, the Massots own one of the last great aristocratic jewellery firms in Paris.

But where is its owner Pierre, missing presumed dead for 15 years? And what will happen to his beautiful young widow Sophie? The answers lie rooted in the past and form part of the future - in a way no-one could ever have guessed...

Customer Reviews

Very disappointed1
I loved Bagshawes early stuff. For pure escapism, glamour and sex you couldn't go wrong. Basically they were chick lit novels at their best. I didn't enjoy Monday's Child or Tuesdays Child at all but when I saw Sparkles I thought maybe she was back on form. But how wrong was I? The story was dull, the plot nonsensical and the heroine was insipid (what was that whole no sex before marriage all about?) I'm afraid when I see Bagshawes next book I'll be leaving it on the shelf and settle with re reading The Movie, Career Girls and Tall Poppies instead.

Not brilliant2
Like others, I've waited a long time for something as good as Career Girls, and this wasn't it either. The sub-plot 'whatever happened to Pierre Massot?' turned out to be ludicrously shallow - almost like an afterthought and the final scene was plain stupid. Hard to believe that I'd read 580 pages to lead up to that ending. It's almost as if the author has spent her career post -'Career Girls' trying to get away from the fact that she used to write well about passion, sex and lust. Because now she avoids it completely.

not her best!!!3
After reading another of Louises books, I couldn't wait to get into Sparkles - but unfortunatley it was very similar to "a kept woman". They both have the hating each other beginning, and then the getting together and setting up a rival company ending!!

If you hadn't read a kept woman, then you wouldn't see the plot coming, but unfortunatley it didnt keep me in suspence at all! Its worth a read - but I can think of better books!!
