Manufacturer's Description
Developed by Irrational Games, SWAT 4 allows players to take control of a squad of up to five police officers tasked with performing dangerous operations such as high-risk arrests, hostage rescue and counter-terrorism. As the unit's commander, players must follow authentic police tactics as they breach and clear a concrete jungle filled with armed felons and innocent bystanders alike.

Featuring graphics courtesy of the Vengeance engine powered by Unreal, SWAT 4 delivers 16 authentic environments set in stunningly rendered locations representing a wide variety of operational environments. Realistic ballistics and Havoc defined object physics will further heighten the experience for the player by providing an added layer of atmospheric authenticity.

As a S.W.A.T. officer, players will have access to authentic assault gear including tactical mainstays such as the Colt M-4 carbine, the Benelli M4 Super 90 shotgun and Surefire tactical lights. However, as with their real-world counterparts, officers in SWAT 4 have to hit hard and fast in order to take down the bad guys and keep the innocent out of harms way. SWAT 4 will also ship with three competitive multiplayer modes as well as a cooperative campaign mode.

Authentic and a whole lot of fun5
You can get a demo of this game off sierra's website.
You get a huge amount of satisfaction, playing this game. Using authentic SWAT tactics, you have to make your way through the environemt, arresting (or neutralising) suspects, securing and rescuing hostages and civillians and confiscating weapons. As the ssquad leader you have to decide how to handle the situation you come across. Before entering a room, you mirror under the door to see if any enemies are in sight. If there are, you can order your men to throw in a flash grenade, then charge into the room whilst the suspect staggers around blinded. You naturally are aiming to arrest suspect rather than kill or wound them, so you have to try and get them to comply by shouting at them (I never get tired of hearing my team shout "DROP THE GUN, GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEES!" at terrified enemies) and if possible using pepper spray or tasers to force them to submit. The clever controls and command menue mean you have no problem responding to situations.

Despite being a few years old now them game still has good graphics, but runs smoothly (on low settings) even on a modest system.

Great Game, Great Price, Great Fun5
Ok so it isn't the best game ever created but for £2.47 it's amazing value. The graphics are good, the gameplay is great and it's just really fun. You don't have to shoot and kill, you can use non-lethal weapons like pepper spray, tasers and bean bag shotguns. Often resolving a situation without killing anyone is actually more fun than doing it with guns. It's funny because you can flashbang a room then taser your opponents whilst they're blinded. Or you can go in there guns blazing, whatever takes your fancy!

This also counters one of the biggest problems with PC games, system inadequacy. Too often you find after a couple of years your PC is technically obselete, but there's no danger of that happening with this game because the system requirements are relatively low.

So all in all, a great game at a great price.
