Review
This is a novel to transcend genre from one of our most terrifying thriller writers, and is a book for people who love books
THE BLACK ANGEL has sold over 200,000 paperbacks and was a Sunday Times top 5 bestseller, Irish Times No. 1 bestseller
Top level investment in a consumer campaign to broaden John Connolly's fanbase through women's magazines and online advertising
The Guardian's 'real readers' feature picked THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS as a book of the year: 'the one author that never ceases to amaze me and goes to the top of my list this year is John Connolly. His THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS is fascinating, claustrophobic, siniser: a definite page-turner'
'The book's epic villainy, mournful tone and tested morality is the essence of Connolly. Worst of all is the Crooked Man, who ranks with the Travelling Man, the Collector and even Mr Pudd among Connolly's most memorable villains. 'THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS is peculiar and perverse and humane, with an incredibly lyrical finale . . . The novel should earn the author new readers.'
(The Irish Times )'Brilliantly creepy coming of age novel'

Simply marvellous!
In short, a higly recommended read! I must admit that it took the first few chapters to get into the book but soon I was indulged and struggling to put it down. A wonderfully creepy and action packed fantasy-adventure with many exciting twists and turns. Read this book and enjoy it before its over.
Mixed Bag
I picked this book up because a)the story sounded good and b)the front cover reminded me of one of my favourite novels The Testament of Gideon Mack. This novel had a very good plot, something I hadn't really encountered before.
However I found some of the novel to be disappointing and thus gave it only 3 stars. Firstly the main character was rather unsympathetic, which I doubt was done on purpose, secondly I found the characters to be very black and white, although as the ideas are based onfairy tales I am starting to wonder whether this was a deliberate thing, and lastly the author seemed to bothered about getting as many fairy tales in the story as possible rather than in advancement of the plot.
Although I thought the book was good, albeit slow in a few parts, I believe that if Connolly dwelled more on the story and main fairy tales that were essential to the plot then this would have been a great book rather than a good one.
An enjoyable read however. 3/5.
Crookedly Marvellous
What i fantastic book, i had been thinking about buying this book for a while and im so glad i did. The first few chapters are filled with raw emotion as you see david attempt to deal with the loss of his mother and the arrival of her replacement. this book is a journey in two ways, a literal journey throughout the dark & haunting unknown fairy-tale like world, but also a journey for david as experiences being chased by hybrid wolves, and a huntress who enjoys surgically joining children & animals together to create the ultimate prey. but also meeting people who show complete kindness & selflessness in helping david on his quest to return home to wartime london.
a wonderful tale filled with imaginative and obscure sub-stories which are not to be missed
