Product Description

Orwell's classic novel tells the story of a world where thoughts and actions are controlled by the all-seeing Big Brother. When Winston Smith rebels and searches for the truth he learns a painful lesson about his world and the people in it. Also a powerful film directed by Michael Radford.

Customer Reviews

Astounding5
I find myself unable to find the exact words to describe this amazing piece of work by George Orwell. I do believe that this read will be a milestone in everybody's life. Read this and your outlook to society will change forever. The parallels betweens Orwell's 1984 and the present are astounding in levels that may not be apparent to everybody.

Think of all the times you use your "identity" on a daily basis: Your cards, your mobiles, the net and your loyalty cards.
Big Brother may not be as aparent to us as he is in Orwell's 1984 yet he is present.

With 1984, Orwell did not make a prognosis. Rather, he made a diagnosis of today's society.

You must read this book!

Fools5
Fools!

These books are designed for adult learners of English, or those seeking to improve their basic skills*, so ignore all the fools who have reviewed the book on the site. They are abridged for this purpose only.

The reviewers are not being clever!

*The stats on adult literacy are shocking in the UK.

Absurd1
Everything about Orwell is to do with simplicity and clarity. The idea of 'simplifying' this text is absolutely absurd.
