My first meeting - and what a fantastic book to start with! I'd only read her Earthsea books before so expected some teen fantasy: how wrong I was, this is classic (and amazingly prescient) sci-fi!

My choice of book and I'm glad to say the book group unanimously loved it! This was the first time everyone agreed: this book's great for getting your teeth into.

I missed December's meeting so don't know how this classic went down with our 21st century readers...

Another golden oldie, surprisingly still readable for a 1930s novel. Only six of us turned up for this one - the rest were probably taking a holiday on soma...

I read this when it came out in paperback and it's the best book I've read so far this year. I don't read much "fantasy" these days but this book really is a fantastic read.

Wasn't enjoying this at first, but then it picked up (with a very funny one-para chapter about a biographical index) so in the end it was a shame it was so short.

My choice of book again - I was in two minds about picking this as it's not strictly genre. Glad I did though as it provoked some lively and thoughtful discussion.

Victorian time-travel, Egyptian magic and body-swapping werewolves - I loved it, just the sort of yarn I was in the mood for. Most of the group weren't so keen though (lack of character development)

In another dimension, there may be a me who, like the rest of the group, thought this a clever and entertaining read. In this dimension however, this one just wasn't for me.

I tried but failed twice to finish this one: I found it far too random, it annoyed the hell out of me. Most of the group rated this one though, I just couldn't see the Light...

My choice again, unfortunatly only 3 people turned up! It can be hard going getting around the physics descriptions, but persevere and you'll be richly rewarded.
