Product Description

"Living and Working in France" is essential reading for anyone planning to live or work in France and is the most up-to-date source of practical information available about everyday life. It's guaranteed to hasten your introduction to la vie francaise, and, most importantly, will save you time trouble and money! This is the best-selling and most comprehensive book about living and working in France since it was first published in 1993. It contains up to twice as much information as similar books and is now printed in full colour.Quotes from readers and reviewers: 'If you need to find out how France works then this book is indispensable. Native French people probably have a less thorough understanding of how their country functions.' ("Living France"). 'This book is a Godsend! A very practical guide to all things French and the famous French administration. A book I am sure I will use time and time again during my stay in France.' (Reader). 'Let's say it at once. David Hampshire's "Living and Working in France" is the best handbook ever produced for visitors and foreign residents in this country. It is Hampshire's meticulous detail which lifts his work way beyond the range of other books with similar titles. This book is absolutely indispensable.' ("Riviera Reporter").'I found this a wonderful book crammed with facts and figures, with a straightforward approach to the problems and pitfalls you are likely to encounter. The whole laced with humour and a thorough understanding of what's involved. Gets my vote!' (Reader). 'In answer to the desert island question about the one how? to book on France, this book would be it.' ("The Recorder"). 'It's just what I needed! Everything I wanted to know and even things I didn't know I wanted to know but was glad I discovered!' (Reader).'Covers every conceivable question that might be asked concerning everyday life I know of no other book that could take the place of this one.' ("France in Print"). 'The amount of information covered is not short of incredible. I thought I knew enough about my birth country. This book has proved me wrong. Don't go to France without it. Big mistake if you do. Absolutely priceless!' (Reader). 'When you buy a model plane for your child, a video recorder, or some new computer gizmo, you get with it a leaflet or booklet pleading 'Read Me First', or bearing large friendly letters or bold type saying 'important' follow the instructions carefully'. This book should be similarly supplied to all those entering France with anything more durable than a 5-day return ticket.' ("Living France").

A really useful book to have, a great read!5
This book has really helped me get a view of french life. Even though i go to France every year this book has taught me all about buying a house and living in France. It has really useful tips and contacts, and tells you everything you need to know from having a baby in France to getting a job. I dont think i could have thought of anything more to ask, as all the answers were in this book. It is really detailed and set out in a way you can understand. I am really glad i purchasced this book and will keep it for many years as it is a great reference.

Well researched and packed full of information5
A very well researched book and packed full of very important information. Every you will encounter, even things you would not think about are contained here.
I was pleased that I found this, Iam buying a small cottage in Brittany and this has saved me a potential loss. I consider it a 'Must Read' for anyone considering, moving to or buying a home in France.
Information on working permits is the best you will find. Better than the French website.
